Exactly 3 inches. The inside radius of the hook is about three and a quarter inches, but the very end curves in a bit.

How easy is it to cut the cane?

There are some websites about canes that tell how to measure the body and cane to know the correct length and they seemed a bit confusing. I just cut it with a hacksaw about 1 inch at a time until it felt comfortable for me. The rubber tip comes off and the wood cuts easy. I love the cane.

How wide is the curved handle horizontally from back of shaft to front of curve, outer dimension? Bigger curve is easier for me to grasp.

On my first order of duro med men's standard deluxe, where I purchased two canes (one for my dad and me), the dimensions were the same around, from the curved handle all the way down to the toe of the cane, not counting the large rubber Tip. It's very Sturdy very Weight resistant, in other words, you can count on this cane!

Is this cane really made in America with American hardwood?

Havn't the foggiest. It looks good and keeps me from toppling over.
