Wow does this baby work!! Painted 6 rooms!!
I have to say that I was very, very did I say very impressed with the Paint Mate Plus. I was going to hire someone to paint my entire apartment but it seemed as though everyone was booked. Painting six rooms was going to be a challenge but I was armed and ready. I was worried based on some of the reviews but I followed the instructions exactly as stated. I was surprised at how well it worked. The paint went on evenly and I actually had some fun using it. I would say that the cleanup at first was time consuming but as I finished each room I got better at the cleanup and had a good system in place. Even with changing colors, I didn't have a problem with the rollers as maybe others did. I think the key is cleaning things thoroughly. I will say to buy an extra brush, mines now looks as though its on death's door. As far as splatter, I did have some here and there but that's because I'm a sloppy painter regardless. Put down some plastic to be on the safe side. My friends and family are amazed at the job I did painting, they are stunned. I don't think I would have been able to do six rooms with the traditional roller. If you have a large job like I had go with the Paint Mate Plus. Follow the instructions and clean everything completely especially if you are switching colors. Good Luck!

Great Product. A must for your tool collection.
I've been making many moves lately and every time I do, I paint the walls to make my new space feel like "my own". I was looking into spray guns, but most are made for the outdoors. I saw this product on a home improvement show (on the DIY network) and decided to give it a try. I can't image they'd endorse something that was of poor quality.PROS:- It keeps the mess down to a minimum. No more paint trays and dripping rollers.- I felt like it actually SAVED paint. Between extra paint in the tray and in the can left over with a traditional painting method, I felt like I was getting the most out of my paint amount with this product.- You can paint a fairly large wall with one refill.- The parts snap on/off to make cleaning easier.- Since you do not have to use a paint tray, the sides of the roller stay clean. Am I the only one who has trouble with globs of paint dripping off the ends of the roller? This eliminates that.- It cuts your painting time in half. You really speed though the process with this gadget.CONS:- In order to refill it, you must use a gallon can. It will not work with a quart or 5 gallon tub. But don't let that completely discourage you. Home improvement stores sell empty gallon cans that you can pour your paint in (such as 1 Gallon Empty Paint Can w/ Lid & Bale ), or you can reuse an old can you cleaned out.- When you first fill the paint chamber, it takes a full load of paint to completely saturate the roller. This could be discouraging to some people, but it's not like the paint just disappeared. Its just under the roller fibers.- The cleaning can be lengthy. I take it apart and clean everything separately. You also MUST make sure you do not leave any paint behind in the chamber because it could mix with a future color. I used the SHUR-LINE 5200 Professional Paint Brush & Roller Cleaner and it cuts the roller cleaning in half. With all that paint in the roller (it's saturated by holes on the inside of the roller) it took me forever to get it clean without the Paint Brush & Roller Cleaner. The roller cleaning is really the most length and tedious part of the cleaning.Overall, I would highly recommend this product. I think I'm going to get one for my mom this Christmas (she a DIYer). Just keep the instructions so you never forget how to put it back together in the future. If cleaning is not your thing, you may want to just stick to the traditional painting method. But if you like speedy results (like me) this product is a must.

Great for painting big & medium rooms.
The cleanup time is longer than a normal roller, and the naps are more expensive. But if you keep this clean it should last a very long time. I had the previous version but through an act of dumbness, I hung it by the head in my basement and broke the little black clip that keeps the roller from sliding off. that weakness disabled the entire roller, since without a roller, you cannot paint. All that being said, I have painted at least 12 rooms with this and find that it saves a lot of time going back and forth to the paint tray and less drips since it stays on the area I want to paint and less time in the air. It doesn't work well in closets or bathrooms. The minimum handle length just doesn't work well in tight spaces. The extended handle does work well for 9 foot ceilings!

I am disappointed
I ordered a Paint Mate Plus Roller primarily because I had bought a "paint stick" at Lowe's that the fill tube broke within the first five minutes (didn't even get the handle filled more than 6 inches). I had used the Wagner Paint Mate years ago and loved the lid cover with the attached fill tube since it was so much sturdier. I was thrilled when I found it on Amazon. I was equally disappointed when it came in. The box was heavily taped (triggering my What's up mode). When I opened it, the roller looked like it had been used for a frisbee outside--covered in little yard debris. It is on it's way back since the fill tube is only slightly better than the one from Lowe's that broke. The packing slip said Wagner Smart Roller but my order said Wagner Paint Mate plus roller. This may be the only alternative but at least the advertised price on the smart roller was almost half of what I paid. I saw a lid like the one I had before for around $12. I may have to go the route of the two purchases and if so, that's what it may have to be. Nevertheless, I am disappointed in the third party company!Anne McGirt
