Well-Rounded Recipes - Great for Those Who Can No Longer Chew
I purchased this book to prepare meals for a cancer patient who can no longer chew anything. Because of this, I certainly wasn't looking for a weight loss book. While the doctor gave us a great book for recipes for a soft food diet, this book has fast and easy recipes that will help the already stressed caregivers (me being one) with time and ease.To be sure this will satisfy our cancer sufferer, I've been making one recipe per day for myself, focused on the protein chapter, and I am thrilled that the recipes are not laden with sweetness. The first chapters, as others have reviewed, are what make this book golden, in my opinion. She gives great guidance on how to get the best mix, and how to adjust the recipes for an individual's sweetness taste. This morning I followed the guidance and added some agave to the smoothie along with a little extra vanilla. It worked well and I have never made a successful smoothie in my life by creating my own, so I am thrilled. After making just 5 of the recipes, I am excited to pass this on to my family members. I will purchase another one for my own household. I am also thrilled that the protein powerhouse smoothies do stay with me for a good 4 hours, even when doing physically demanding work all day.It should be noted that I live in a small, rural area. We don't always have access to exotic ingredients. I was very excited that the ingredients in the recipes I have tried are common and were readily available in our small town grocery store. The variety of recipes in the book is also wonderful. It has recipes that work for whatever mood or whatever need you have. It also works for all ages and all purposes. I want to thank the author for preparing this book. It will be a significant help to us.

A great way to get in fruits and veggies!!
OMG! This book is just what my family needed. We struggled with getting in our daily fruits and veggies, but this book has completely changed that! I mean, it's perfect for even my picky eaters.. there's literally something for everyone! My kids get so excited when I pull out this book of smoothies and let them pick the ones we'll make. It's truly a game-changer! I highly recommend. Thank you!!

Accessible Book with Good Recipes
I have struggled to find a reliable source of smoothie recipes ever since I got my Vitamix a year ago. This cookbook is the best one I've found, and I'm really enjoying going through the recipes in this book. Most of the ones I've tried have been good tasting. Some are even great tasting!I'm looking for nutritious and filling smoothies. I favor the "Health Boosters," "Protein Powerhouses," and "Green Drinks" sections in this book. But I have made some from all of the different sections except for "Drinkable Desserts." The "Kid-Approved Sips" are pretty good, but often a bit too sweet for my taste.I especially like the intro section that helps you determine substitutions for ingredients. Let's face it, many smoothie cookbooks and websites try to thrill you with fancy, expensive, or hard-to-find ingredients like acai powder, cashew milk, hemp seeds, and lemongrass. Who has all these things on hand all the time? I like that there are substitutions so I can proceed even if I don't have everything in the basic recipe. This book has encouraged me to try some new ingredients in my smoothies . For example, I've had success with adding rolled oats, fresh or steamed cauliflower, and silken tofu.A few areas for improvement: I have a larger Vitamix and the one-serving recipes usually don't have enough bulk to be blended. Yes, I can double it, but sometimes, I don't have enough ingredients to double it - had I known I would have to double the recipe, I might have chosen another one, where I have enough of all ingredients.I find the serving sizes are inconsistently inaccurate. It says it's for 2 servings, but I get 1.5 or something. Or I get 2.5 servings. Or only 1 serving. Annoying. Over time, though, I've gotten better at looking at the recipe and being able to estimate how many servings it will produce. Finally, I enter these recipes in my meal/food intake tracker, and often I get different nutritional values from the nutritional info printed with the recipe. It varies how different they are, but usually, the printed nutritional info is "in the ballpark."Have fun with this book!

Easiest Way to Veggies!
I’m not a great veggie eater, so smoothies incorporating these veggies help keep 78 year old me healthy! Lots of yummy recipes for whatever you may be lacking and shopping tips for convenient items to make them. M

A valuable resource for your kitchen!
This book is more than recipes-it’s also a great resource for healthy nutrition tips! I’d recommend it to all moms in need of a healthy boost for themselves as well as tasty ways to increase their kids’ fruit and veggie intake! This book doesn’t just sit and collect dust, it actually gets used!

Interesting Ingredients...
First of all, let me state that I love smoothies. Where I live it's warm pretty much most of the year, and it's a lot easier to grab things out of the freezer and fridge (where I keep plenty of fruits and vegetables), and throw them into the Ninja instead of cooking a full meal (since it's only my husband and myself, this works pretty much well).Anyway, I found this book interesting in that the author managed to throw nuts and seeds into almost every smoothie, so those allergic to nuts might want to pass this one on by (which is the reason for the star rating). Also, and this is personal preference, I refuse to drink any 'nut' or 'oat' milk; so the substitutions I made probably changed the taste. However, even with my own substitutions, the smoothies I did make came out tasting pretty good. So I guess that the end result is the fact that if you want to use the recipes as written, they will probably be very good smoothies; but a lot of people won't have these ingredients on hand and may even have to go to specialty stores to find them. Other than that, the recipes are pretty decent, but I can't see making all of them.I was given an advance copy from the publisher and Amazon but this in no way influenced my review.
