Correction to incorrect review
U3 software *DOES NOT* install any application without your consent. It autoruns an application loaded on a virtual CD drive. This is well documented on the web. Sandisk provide a tool, which can be downloaded from their website at [...] which will remove the virtual CD feature. However, given how good U3 is, I don't understand why anyone would pay extra for it and then remove it.If you want to find out about U3 just go to [...]This is the best priced U3 drive available today - I'm writing this update as I place my order.

Cruzing with the Cruzer
An excellent product. I plugged the device into my main PC where it was instantly recognised - I declined to install the freebie programmes that came with the flash drive which caused no hassle at all - I lose interest rapidly with things that fight back. I copied over the programme and documents I needed, transferring them to my laptop all within the space of a few minutes. It's fast! It's a "plug and go" gadget and the retractable USB and accompanying lanyard are great blessings for someone who routinely misplaces stuff - at least I can attach it to myself without losing either the gadget or the cap!

Great, except for the autorun software
Beware - this (and other U3 devices) automatically install software onto Windows computers without your consent. It appears as both a USB device and as a CDROM, and there is no way of stopping it from installing it's special application or removing the read-only partition containing the software. If you have no problem with the U3 Launchpad popping up on your bosses and customers computers, or with software being installed with no warning, then this is a well-made item. You can disable the installed device and remove the software after installation, but that's not the point - it should ask first. I wouldn't have purchased this USB key had I known, and I would strongly recommend that others avoid it.

A bit disappointed
I used U3 smart drive before and have bought this to replace the old one which failed after 3 years. I am a bit disappointed with this replacement as the U3 program did not work properly. As I see this as a nice to have I now just use this for storage without the U3 functionality.

Nice when it works!
I bought one of these. It worked beautifully on 2 of my PCs (XP Pro/SP2/IE7) but was not recognised on a third (XP Home/SP2/IE7). It may well be that there was a problem on the third, but it works perfectly on another usb 2.0 key I own. I had 2 long telephone calls with Sandisk but they were unable to get it running. Although the problematic computer is fully usb 2 enabled, I'm assuming maybe there was a power issue, although I was unable to test it with a powered hub. Bottom line is I returned the item for refund - this type of gizmo HAS to work on all computers, otherwise it's no use to me.Apart from this, the things I like about this item are:+ The retractable design is excellent. The only other retractable design I found was an LG product, where the speed was heavily criticised. Retractable design means you don't lose the top, which most people do on the conventional, non-retractable designs.+ Size - it's smaller than average+ Speed. On the computers where it is recognised it was faster than myother usb 2 Flash Drive.Things I didn't like:- I felt the build quality was slightly plasticky, for a relatively expensive item.- The U3 stuff is nice, but don't be under illusions that there is much free u3 software out there. If you want Avast anti-virus updates you have to pay after a few months. [...] is a free and viable alternative to U3 with loads of free applications. You can uninstall and reinstall U3 anyway - see the Sandisk downloads site.Overall - unfortunately I cannot recommend it due my problems on one of my PCs. On the other hand, I guess I cannot definitely absolve the PC.
