Collapsible FTC - Small Fish Trap

Trap arrived packed very well. Was surprised to see the quality of the kit, which you have to assemble. Each side is a cleanly-cut acrylic pane, with easy to peel off backing paper that reveals ultra clear plastic. Follow the directions to slide the tabs into the slotted areas and secure the tab with rubber bands, provided. Looks great. Only issue is the tank clamp; it doesn't fit great to the edge of my 55 gal tank, and it's not adjustable. But it kinda works. The other weird thing is the trap door - it uses a plastic fin that you attach to monofilament line they provide (about 4 ft). The fin holds the trap door open until you see the fish swim into the tank. Then you pull the line, and the fin pulls out of the trap door allowing it to drop. Cheap, but effective. Big Mollies were the first to wander in, which is good because they were most what I needed to remove. So far, the tetras are too smart for it. But they'll get hungry eventually.

Ordered Wednesday. Arrived Thursday. Rogue Coral Beauty in another tank Friday. Fantastic trap. For a novice reefer and my first attempt at trapping a fish this was a great piece of equipment. Too bad to lose my CB because it was a beautiful fish with a good personality but he shredded my Rock anemone and Torch so he had to go. Trap took about five minutes to put together, was well built crystal clear acrylic and after about 16 hours of skittishness I had my rogue.

Worked good.Pro Easy to put together.Pro Worked the first time.Con Cost ( now i caught the fist on the first try, it will sit on the self.) One time use, cost a bit, but worked.

Do not buy this product. You can pull hard or easy, the door comes completely off and doesn’t trap fish. Out of 5 stars I would rank it a minus 10

I am still doing the victory dance and the neener neener song to the Kribensis that I have been trying to catch for a couple of MONTHS! He is very fast and very smart and I have tried many times to get him but got tired of chasing him around the tank and trying to herd him into a net. I have tried many times and many ways. I finally bought this fish trap and within SECONDS I had the little guy. I didn't even get the bait food into the tube and he was already inside the box so I pulled the string and had him in SECONDS FLAT. FANTASTIC PRODUCT!!!

Horrible design. No instructions and took forever to get assembled and functioning. Very lightweight door couldn’t stand up light flow in the tank. Seems to have not been tested at all. Bait cylinder fits down to the micron and is almost impossible to use in tank. Door is loose and falls out constantly.Never did catch a single fish. What a waste of money. Do not buy!

Issues: U channel bracket does not fit over the lip of my standard 55G tank, rubber bands which hold trap together fail - 3 have broken so far (some extras included with kit but will run out), Clip that holds trap door up is very loose - any water movement in tank can cause un-intented release. Trap door can get angled in guide channels causing slow or no release. I was attempting to catch a large 2" damselfish which had been harassing a yellow tang. Damsel went into trap once and I triggered the release but door was too slow in closing and spooked the fish. After many subsequent hours of trying and baiting with his favorite foods he's never gone into the trap again. Only took one miss to permanently spook the damsel. The yellow tang is easy to catch with this trap as he does not get spooked - I've got him many times and he keeps coming back for more.

Ok so I never write reviews. But after several days of losing my mind trying to remove the ever expanding swarm of endlers from my heavily planted lampeye Killifish/ wrestling halfbeak tank I decided to try this. Within fifteen minutes I had about 90% of the adults and the remaining fry are easy enough to net. My only complaint is that the assembly instructions aren't the best. Here's a hot tip: do not use the string. Just have the door up with the swingy thing cocked slightly to keep it open. When they are in, just tap the swing thing and the door will shut. Wish I got this thing sooner. The endlers now have their own tank and I can watch my lampeye Killifish and halfbeaks without endlers swarming the glass.
