Chitty Chitty Bang Bang

What a great classic haven’t seen it since the 90s. Very glad I purchased it on DVD. It really is a lot of fun. Highly would recommend this film to anyone wanting to show their children a classic.

I am a huge fan of Richard Van Dyke, and I still watch his sitcoms and this movie several times a week. It is a modern-day classic! Every generation would enjoy this movie!

Love this movie

Chitty Chitty Bang Bang was a movie produced in 1968, and it certainly shows. The lavish costumes, romantic themes, and over the top humor come straight out of a tradition that includes such movies as Mary Poppins, The Sound of Music, and many others. I remember seeing it as an 11 year old when it first came out and several times after that, but it's been many years since I last watched it all the way through. Now that I've seen it again I find it amusing, sometimes surprisingly so, and quite beautifully filmed. Watching as an adult is a bit eye opening. The court of Baron Bomburst is decidedly shady and at times rather perverse (take a good look at some of the party guests and you'll see what I mean), while the song and dance between the Baron and Baroness is more than a little suggestive. The Child Catcher is extremely creepy, which is good because after watching him no child will ever again want to take candy from a stranger. On the other hand the Truly Scrumptious character is, despite her deplorable name, a good solid common sense and indeed liberated sort. The best of the cast is Dick Van Dyke, who very wisely chose not to attempt a repeat of his Cockney accent from Mary Poppins. This is a musical, but the only one of the songs that really sticks in my mind is the theme song, which is undeniably catchy (I was surprised to find I was word perfect on the lyrics after so many years of not hearing it.) All in all this is a good movie with a lot of humor that children will enjoy and that adults will be surprised by. It doesn't have much in common with the book by Ian Fleming on which it is supposedly based, which is a pity, but it's certainly worth the couple of hours or so it takes to watch.

Since others have written excellent reviews of this movie, I'll just say even as an adult, I LOVE this movie as much as when I was a kid!!! I've had multiple copies of the regular DVD version of this and every one of them has had problems. Right out of the brand new box with no scratches, they skipped and had chapters that wouldn't play at all! Highly irritating as you'd imagine!!! This Blu-ray version played flawlessly! Finally I can enjoy one of my all time favorite movies without interruptions!!!!!!!!

Those movies are never forgotten. This one is print in my memory because it is magnificent and spectacular. It is colorful, imaginative, original and so... sweet ! There was two of that genre that were released in 1968 : Chitty Chitty Bang Bang (Warfield Productions, distributed by United Artists) and Oliver (Romulus Films, distributed by Columbia Pictures). Both of them were musicals, both of them were pure enchantment. It was a Golden Era for Hollywood producers and distributors at the time. From a movie to another you could experienced something completely different, something with its own specific signature. Those are the unforgettable classics. Chitty Chitty Bang Bang is a must in a family collection movies. It’s fun entertainment, and although it carries many important values, the emphasis is on the power of imagination, the determination and the belief in oneself. After navigating from a copy to another copy of a movie and another, it is truly refreshing to come back at the time were the willingness to make one’s mark was the priority of all studios. That classic is on my shelves now and I’m dying to see the day where my grandson will be old enough to watch it, with me.
