Q: Is this plug and play or are is there a need to install any drivers?

The video is plug and play, but the microphone requires LogiTune software to be installed so that you can "enable" the microphone. It's kind of a firmware setting in the camera. This can be accomplished by using one machine with the LogiTune software on it and enabling the microphone. Other people have written directions for this. If you purchased many of these webcams for an office or lab environment you will have to enable each one. Then take every subsequent webcam and plug it into the machine with LogiTune software running. It will not detect the camera in the software at first but wait about 30 seconds - 1 minute before unplugging the webcam. Re-plug in same system to verify that microphone is enabled. Now any other computer will see the webcam and microphone without the LogiTune software needing to be installed.

Q: Why would you sell a product with the mic disabled, when it comes from the manufacturer with a working mic?

I use these to stream on Twitch, DJ'ing and Drumming. My audio for streams comes directly from a Mackie main board mixer into the PC so it's clean and digital. I don't need the webcam mics picking up the audio I play over the PA system causing feedback/echos. It's still a great cam, if you need the mics working, it's pretty easy to enable them. But then again, with another 920 series webcam, it's just as easy to turn the mic off if you have needs like me.

No, you dont have to pay. You use their free Logitune application that you download to turn the mic on.

Q: Does this webcam take still photos?

Yes, you can take still photos with this or any standard webcam. Ignore the other answers to the contrary. Windows 10 comes with the free "Camera" app which you can easily use to take still photos (or videos). On a Mac, you can use "Photo Booth," also free, and also able to take still photos or videos. Other apps with more or different features are also available.
