The Epson Scan 2 software can save to BITMAP, JPEG, PNG, TIFF, Multi-TIFF, or PDF. The TIFF appears to be 3 bytes per pixel, uncompressed. The FastFoto software only saves to JPEG. As of Jan 21, 2018, by default the installer from the Epson site will install both FastFoto and Scan 2.

Q: How many 4 x 6 photos can you scan at 300 dpi in 1 hour? how many at 600 dpi? this is a very useful metric; answers seem to be all over the place

You can scan 30 photos in a group; at about 5 Sec per photo at 600 DPI that's 2.5 min per 30 Photos. I figure it takes about 30 sec to wipe the glass and put another 30 photos in the try.... so a total of 3 min per 30 photos, which means about 600 photos per hour... assuming you sit there for the full hour and pay attention..... I did all my photos at 600 DPI and only ran a few groups through at 300 DPI for testing.... It takes less than 3 sec per photo at 300 DPI but we'll say 3 sec for the math. With the same 30 photo groups and 30 sec to wipe and load, that puts it at 900 photos per hour at 300 DPI... keep in mind that those scan times (5 and 3 sec) are for a full sheet not 4X6 soo... figure a bit shorter per photo. I was scanning OLD photos and there were times when the photos stuck together and caused issues so on average, I think the above times are accurate even for 4X6 photos.
