I bought this for my elderly parents' home. They have a 2-story home and my dad has started to walk in the night and use the hallway bathroom instead of the one in his bedroom. I was afraid he would walk too close to the staircase and fall since it is so dark, so I bought this retractable gate and it work out great! It was easy for my son to install and the hook side is sturdy. We had to use zip-ties to attach the hook side since there is just an iron railing opposite the wall, so all is well and I can rest easy now.

This works fabulously for keeping our chihuahua out of our carpeted living and dining rooms. Easy to install and works very well. Great product.

This gate has a major downfall to start. It came with absolutely no instructions. It just comes with a long sheet of paper with a few measurements. That’s it. It comes with nearly double the parts you need (you get about two dozen screws), and so you just need to guess how to mount it. I was able to get it set up, but it was 100% guesswork. If you aren’t ready to assemble by trial and error, I’d find a different gate. If you do get it put together though, the retractable feature is nice. I would caution though that this is not a solid gate, and so young children can easily fall through it. This is more of a bottom of the stairs gate, not the top of them. I bought it for my dog though, and it seems to be working well for that purposes so far.*Edit* The seller did reach out to me to improve my product experience, and make things right. They mentioned that they had updated the assembly instructions since first posting my review. They company does seem to care for its product though, so overall they were pleasant to deal with.

I would 100% recommend this gate! It was super easy to install and the quality of the gate is durable. I love the look of it as you don’t always want a baby gate up, especially when the baby is not in that particular room. The lock feature is great and as well as the ease of the retraction of the gate. Definitely worth the money!

This was not made for toddlers. Literally it took my child 3 days to figure out how to not only crawl under this, but go back & get his toys to bring with him (fisher price garbage truck and fire truck - not small toys). We had it low -touching the ground and locked! My husband is extremely handy (literally builds furniture, puts in flooring, etc) so it was not an installation issue. I even tried to pull it extra tight at the roll before locking it to see if that would help & that did nothing.On top of that, it’s so annoying when you want to go out you have to walk to one end, unlock, walk to the other, unhook and then guide into the roll in & it very easily gets wonky, you have to pull it back out & makes a horrible sound. It’s just not at all functional. We didn't have it stretched all the way either so it wasn’t that.This would be fine for bigger dogs ( I wouldn’t use for a small dog that could get under) or kids that wouldn’t try to get out but honestly it just doesn’t work well. We ended up getting a hard gate & it’s way more durable and was much less expensive. This is overpriced & not usable.

Serves the purpose for the most part. Due to it being more of a cloth fabric, is easy to get through the gate or under it.

Pros: Easy to use from either side, fits range of opening width, fully retracts well, can stay closed and not be locked, safe for outdoor use, right height for decks, attractive, multiple colors, removable base unit for off-season.Cons: tricky to install, requires drilling on both sides but doesn’t include template for where to drill, requires base pieces to be permanently installed on both sides of doorway, motivated dogs (and probably kids cunder 1) can inch under even when locked because of fabric design.We needed a deck gate to let our dog laze on our outdoor deck without a line getting tangled around deck furniture. It’s at the top of 3 outdoor steps. We needed something that easily opened and closed from both sides (not a pressure gate), was attractive (no plastics), durable for outside, easily removable for off-season, and could accommodate deck height (excluded most metal gates).I prefer the look of dark metal, but the only one we could find that met our requirements, was durable, and fit our deck opening was a very expensive, permanently installed metal gate with an extension. It was going to run around $300 or so. This is so much nicer once we were able to manually line up the drill holes. It’s so nice that it is barely noticeable when it’s not in use, something few gates can offer. It is about 4” or so fully retracted so we don’t bump into it when using the steps and elderly relatives don’t have a problem.I was pleasantly surprised to learn that with a click or two, the whole retracting unit removes leaving just 2 small plastic mounts on each side, so I don’t have to worry about snowy Northeastern winters or it coming off and damaging something during a hurricane.Our dog snuck under it once, but I don’t think he liked the experience especially since a step was immediately on the other side. I suspect he tumbled a little but didn’t see it. Perhaps if we’d installed it a little lower, but sometimes we just put a plant in front of it.

Super easy to install, it also looks nice and is nice that it’s out of the way so when you aren’t using it it’s not super noticeable! It opens nicely and is pretty easy to lock in place. Good height and seems to be super good quality. Locks which is good so baby can’t get past and seems sturdy enough to hold baby in. We use this in a play room so we do not use on the stairs but so far no issues. The only thing that I don’t like is that it’s hard to close with one hand.
