Interesting book
I'd recently been reading the Old Testament of the Bible from start to finish, & I enjoyed it far more than I expected to. I bought this version of The Talmud out of interest. I found it easy to read, and I enjoyed it. Recommended.

the talmud - selections
I bought this item to familiarise myself more with the Talmud. I liked the selction insofar as it gave a flavour of the massive library the Talmud is. However, the focus of the selection is on the stories. I would have prefered a more balanced selection across all the genres the Talmud contains.

a ride through history - easy to read
Wow, what a history this book has - from the divinely sublime, a ride through history - easy to read. A must, even if you are NOT of the Jewish faith.

Interesting
I heard about the Talmud from my dad. It's like he said, the missing parts in the bible is available in the Talmud. It's a good read. Bought this for s friend.

Disappointing and very much not 'The Talmud'
I am so confused by this book. I obviously didn't expect this to be a complete translation of The Talmud as it is far too long to be contained in one paperback, but I have literally no idea from this book which parts of it are Mishnah and which Gemarra and have zero idea of the structure of The Talmud as this is laid out 'as the translator thought best' and not at all as The Talmud is actually laid out. I am a proselyte and was looking for the actual Talmud and calling this The Talmud is so misleading. It seems to be simply biblical commentary and then the teachings of the rabbis broken down in sections from each rabbi. Where are the sections that guide you through the actual unwritten law? Are they included in some sections here? Are they not included at all? (In which case you simy cannot call it a translation of the Talmud, as the introduction of this book does). I was wanting to learn about the actual Talmud, and not simply to read some of the contents of it redacted and rearranged. I am so disappointed.
