The Changing World Of DVD and Blue Ray Is Here
With the changing methods of watching movies the ability to be able to play DVD and Blue Ray discs from around the world is important. This Sony player is fantastic. Automatic play of all DVDs areas is great and the ability to select Blue Ray regions quickly are all available. The unit is small but built well. The speed of loading a movie for play is quick. The remote control is smaller than those in the past but has all of the function. You can connect to the internet but is not required to play discs. Fiber optic sound is available but not required.

Does NOT do what it's supposed to!!!
You know good old Amazon, you can't leave a review without giving at least one star, so this player gets one for simply functioning at all. This player DOES NOT play dvds or blu rays from other countries! It is falsely advertised as doing so. It will only play US formatted disc's. While the seller is not responsible for manufacturing the player, I still hold them accountable to some degree for selling something that in no way indicates that it does what it's advertised to do. It's as if someone just MADE UP the product description for this player. If anyone can tell me what player will ACTUALLY work with Non US region movies and series, please I would love to know.

This pretty little gadget is clearly like a so-waited Birthday-gift!
I live in Hungary (Eastern-Europe), and already have a 4K UHD Blu-ray player from an other Japanese electronic equipment producer. But that player plays only European B2 Blu-ray and DVD 2 region coded Discs - fortunately the 4K Discs don't have region code!I have a bit special taste in movies, because usually I don't care mainstream productions or cult-films - just some. But the movie distribution (on disc), is total mess, and a hardly understandable process. For example: "Madame Bovary" (Mia Wasikowska), on Blu-ray Disc, released at US 2 years earlier than in Europe, or "Rust Creek" (Hermione Corfield), is released on BD just in the USA. Finally, my third favourite actress (beside Mia Wasikowska and Saoirse Ronan), Kate Lyn Sheil's movies are barely available at my continent. Therefore I need to buy movies from America, or just now Australia! But US released movies have A1 BD and DVD 1, Australian released have DVD 4 region code. So, I had no choice, I must bought a region-code-free Blu-ray player, which I got only in the USA.This unit is the most simple in SONY's budget player range. A small, lightweight, rectangular box, with hidden tray, two button (on/off and open/close), an USB port on front - there’s no display. On rear: connector for external power supply, a single HDMI, an ethernet socket (for smart functions which I don't use), and a coaxial-digital (audio) output. Latter was important to me, cause without this, there would have been no sound for my stereo setup. I needed some accessories: US/EU connector adapter (the unit works with all voltage), coax-digital cable, DAC, RCA cable-pair, but after I bought and connected everything, a miracle happened: I could watch my American Discs! This is an used unit (demo-player by the seller), but I got it pristine condition and for friendly price ($89). The configuration is fast with the simple menu. The player reading Discs in no time. But most important test is the picture quality, what is better than I expected from a budget player! With Blu-ray Discs almost perfect - my UHD-BD player is more sophisticated unit, and it cost four times as much, than the SONY, but latter yet competitive, compared the more expensive player. This is true also with DVD, considering the lower-resolution of the format. (The unit doesn't have upscaler, but my TV has one, therefore anything alright!)My sole problem is the remote. I don't have big hands or sausage-fingers, but the remote yet too small, with tiny buttons - for example the pause-button, which I frequently use. And, I can't understand, why not has all Blu-ray/DVD player backlit remote in the 21th century? If you want some like these, you can pay $600 or more! It's simply ridiculous. In sum: this is a little box, with full of surprise! Simple, practical, competitive compared also higher quality standard. Finally solved my old problem with region codes. This purchase was one of the most smart decision of my life! I'm so pleased with this gadget. Recommended for all, who like simple, and good-working things.

UPDATE - Blu-ray DVD Player will not play audio thru any soundbar only thru my TV
The Seller reached out to me within 24 hours and I called their Tech support. After about 45 minutes on the phone they walked thru all the possible compatibility issues. We finally resolved the issue and it works with my TV and my original soundbar. I know have two extra soundbars but hey it works. Their tech support was patient and very helpful so I am upgrading my original rating.I purchased a multi-zone Blu ray/DVD Player to replace and older Multi-system DVD player that finally quit working. I Read the Reviews on Amazon for this product and it seemed to fit my requirements.SONY S1700 Multi System All Region CodeFree Blu Ray Disc DVD Player - PAL/NTSC - USB - 110-240V 50/60Hz - 6 feet HDMI Cable Included. On the Positive side it arrived in good condition and was seemly straightforward in its setup. I have a year old Samsung 65" Class NU7100 Smart 4K UHD TV with 3 HDMI outputs connected to a sound bar. The Cable box, the apple TV, work fine. The third HDMI connector to the Blu-ray did not connect. I first went to Samsung spent a hour on the phone with their tech support and found the issue was my old dvd not the TV. So I bought the Sony S1700 Multi-system Blu-ray player to take advantage of my TVs 4K UHD capabilities.I hooked everything up and the Player worked fine except for a very BIG issue. I would not connect to my sound bar. I tried optical splitters, digital audio to optical adapters, bought better gold tipped cables. And finally just bought a new sound bar specifically for the Sony Blu-ray/DVD player. It also did not work with the player. The Blue Ray player ONLY has a Coaxial out put to other sound devices. I repurposed the sound bar for an Epson Projector and there it worked fine with normal RCA cables. I purchased a third sound bar with a coaxial input. I hooked everything up and nothing happened. I got video but no sound.I took everything apart and reconnected the player to only the sound bar and played a CD. It worked beautifully. So I reconnected the player back to my AV system. CD’s play great, Home made DVDs played great. HOWEVER every Blu-ray and every Store bought DVD played Video but had a screeching clicking sound like an old movie projector but no sound. I tried over 30 DVDs of various age, regions, and types. I only found one that would work. I tried the 4 color buttons to change regions on the Players remote. All to no avail. I have hundreds of DVDs from the US and Europe and would like to be able to have better sound than what is available from the TV Speakers. I’m more than disappointed and more than a little frustrated with the audio options and performance of the player. I could not recommend it for anyone who wants to hear their Blu-ray, DVDs in anything other than their tiny TV speakers.
