I was wondering if I will be able to learn how to use it. Then I discovered a dummies book on Android Phones by Dan Gookin. I am familiar with Gookin name as I have read his book on Android Tablet. A very nice book. So I am sure I will learn to use my new Android Phone. He is a master in explaining all smart phone concepts. Sure enough I am able to use my smart phone very well. Thanks to the incredible author Dan Gookin. Review: Good guide - I am new to Smart Phones and this book is a good reference tool. However, it did not answer all my questions.

Great book! Easy to understand!
This is a great book. It is so easy to read and full of good advice and even several funny laugh out loud statements. So glad I bought it and would do it again.

Mixed review
The book seems to be a bit out of date. At times, but not always, the instructions will refer to controls that no longer exist on today's phones.

The basics in a (big) nutshell
Got this for my 94 year old Dad. It's difficult for me to explain in simple terms how he can use his phone. This book simplifies things a bit more than I can I guess, but he is learning a little here and there as he reads it and can also go back to refresh his memory. I think this will work for him ...

It was not what I had hoped for.
I needed key strokes to do certain things in Android, I needed a tutorial in the inner workings so I could do more. So fgar this book has not done me any good, and I am afraid to buy another one as it may be even more lame.

DISAPPOINTED IN THE CONDITION OF THE BOOK
I recently received my book, Android Phones For Dummies from Amazon, written by Dan Gookin. I have since read a little here, a little there, due to being a first-time owner of a smartphone. Surprisingly, I found at least 30 pairs of pages that were uncut at the bottom (still attached to other pages), so I had to go through and disconnect them. This resulted in slightly damaged pages with even a tear or two. I order regularly from Amazon and am very disappointed in the condition of this book.

My father just received his first smartphone for Christmas, and so we supplemented it with the Android for Dummies book which could not have been more helpful - it really has helped him to understand every part of the phone that he wants to use, although it does elaborate on some aspects that most people wouldn't use in a thousand years. Very useful either way, and definitely a good standby for when he (inevitably) forgets how to do something on it.
