.com The ominously named End House is the setting for deadly deception in this feature-length adaptation of Agatha Christie's novel. As so often happens, supersleuth Hercule Poirot (David Suchet) is charmed by a woman--in this case, Magdala "Nick" Buckley (Polly Walker, who later starred in Enchanted April and Restoration). Nick jokingly mentions three recent close calls with death, piquing Poirot's investigative instincts. A murder does occur; however, the murderer isn't the only criminal in this multilayered mystery. The path to the truth takes several unexpected twists before reaching its conclusion. In fact, this is one case Poirot's little gray cells may not have solved but for the help of his assistants. Although Poirot teases Captain Hastings (Hugh Fraser) about his crime-solving abilities, it is Hastings's childish word-association game that provides the crucial piece to the puzzle. And Miss Lemon (Pauline Moran), who in previous episodes has resorted to tarot cards and hypnotism to aid her employer, holds an impromptu séance during the final scene. A highly enjoyable (if somewhat improbable) addition to the Agatha Christie's Poirot series. The DVD transfer has excellent picture and sound quality. Special features include an interactive trivia game, biographies of David Suchet and Agatha Christie, and a link to the official Agatha Christie Web site. --Larisa Lomacky Moore From the Back Cover Sleuth Superbe! "The man who invented the camera has a lot to answer for, mon ami!"
Once again, Captain Hastings (Hugh Fraser) and Hercule Poirot (David Suchet) take a vacation. This involves another flight Poirot would rather not take. You'd think he'd take an interest in the travel arrangements at this point; at least the Majestic looked like a nice hotel. "The food will be inedible!" The plot involves an `accident' prone heiress and plenty of suspects. "If someone wants to murder me, they can." A body shows up much later. Lots of fun, even if Poirot can't convince anyone he's the greatest detective that ever lived! "It is not a tragedy that I was born on the wrong side of the channel." Golf for Hastings, sleuthing for Poirot (Miss Lemon lends a hand and provides a psychic connection).

One of the better Suchet Poirot episodes...
Peril at End House is a clever who-dunnit with an interesting twist. The protagonist is clever indeed... The episode stars Poirot's usual friends, and the very beautiful Polly Walker (Emma, Enchanted April) as "Nick" Buckley in one of her earlier roles (she was 24 then). The episode is set on the south-west coast of England - a beautiful back-drop, although most people living there haven't heard of Poirot, much to his annoyance! The location (St. Looe) is actually close to that of another holiday murder, "Evil Under the Sun" (the book, not the film).Poirot: "I can't eat these eggs - they're not the same size!"

Good, Complicated, Surprising
Suchet at his best. He claims Agatha Christie plays fair in this mystery. See if you agree.

Another solid Poirot adventure
A young woman is murdered during a party where a fireworks display is featured. Just moments before, she borrowed a distinctive jacket from her cousin, who was wearing it. It seems clear that the cousin was the intended target. Once again, it is up to Hercule Poirot to ferret out the culprit. This is yet another solid entry in the POIROT series, with David Suchet providing the definitive portrayal of the Belgian sleuth. Hugh Fraser, Pauline Moran and Philip Jackson all provide solid support as usual. Another must-see for Agatha Christie fans. Highly recommended.
