Pricey but worth every penny
The Madison Reed line is twice the price of other box hair color and highlights. This balayage is not a quick treatment-it takes about an hour from start to finish-but the results are worth the time. If you are like me, and want the more natural, low-maintenance look with softer transitions-then this balayage is for you. Highlights always give a "striped" appearance. Balayage creates a more natural look with softer lines.

Love the warmth it brings! Subtle and beautiful!
I've used this kit a few times but used the Cool Vanilla in the past- this will be my new go-to! I don't use the applicator- I just use my fingers to rub into the strands I want- it's easier to paint on this way. Starting from the bottom and working my way to my top layers. I like an easy natural look that grows out. This is so easy to use if you don't use the applicator- I've used a tooth brush in the past too but this is great. I'm so happy with how it turned out!!

I have salon experience and this still went terribly wrong.
I thought this might be a better way to give myself highlights than the way I usually do it (learned in a salon) and it had good reviews. BUT applicator brush tool is sooooooooo weird and left my hair streaky and splotchy and didn't apply evenly so it's just awkward. Not only that, it came out a very NOT-natural shade of yellow. It looks like a kindergardener did some drunken fingerpainting on my head with yellow paint. I wish I'd at least used my own method/tools for the highlights instead of their hinky wishbone thing. So, now I've wasted money and time on this kit and I'll also be spending money and time on a proper color correction to fix it. Very disappointing and frustrating. 😖

Pretty good
The color didn’t come out as the photos it had more of a brassy color. Better after using blue shampoo. The conditioner was amazing! Pretty happy with it but the applicator brush was a joke I ended up using a toothbrush and it worked so much better!

Thought I had it
Never done this before and am not a coloring expert. Will say I am a beginner hoping to save money.I watch the videos and read the directions. Watch some Brad mondo videos to see anything else about balayage. The process was easy. BUT, I did have face framing highligta that look like was the only thing to change color. The applicator is key and great! BUT the bleach comes in half a bottle. I thought I would run out so I tried saving it. BUT I am almost done and realize I am about to have left overs then I know I messed up. I didn’t put enough. It’s splotchy. My ends doesnt take. I have spots and dark ends and lines.I thought I was doing well until I notice the amount of bleach left.

My hair is healthy and my highlights make me radiant!!!!!
This product was easy to use with easy to follow, detailed instructions. My hair came out great. I applied the product quickly and I only let it process for 25 minutes and I got the results I wanted. I highly recommend this product, especially if you have natural hair and you only use color on it.

CX be warned - might be a good product but tough for a first timer
Honestly have no idea if it's good or not because I messed up the instructions twice - and I'm a scientist that is used to following protocols in the lab... But maybe that's why I failed so hard here as I'm used to a certain way. I've been box highlighting my hair for 15 years... Always have my ash brown for quick fixes, have the method dialed in. This kit might work but the instructions are not intuitive. Whoever runs customer experience or product needs an FYI. 1) don't label the box diagram with A-E on the products and not in the paper instructions, very confusing when names are similar 2) if you're going to letter them then do so in chronological order, don't have F mix with A followed by C for example. I had high hopes that this formula might be better but I'll probably need to either try again or go for the box that is 1/2 price.
