It does the job
Being grounded in JavaScript/jQuery but having not looked at any of the new HTML 5 technologies, I found this book covered all the necessary points of the new HTML 5 technologies that I needed to know in order to pass the exam. If you are COMPLETELY new to JavaScript programming, then I would suggest you need to supplement this book with in-depth JavaScript tutorials. You need to be confident that you have a very real grasp of JavaScript basics - scoping, different ways to wire-up event handling are two MUST UNDERSTAND concepts - and also jQuery - the de facto JavaScript toolkit. I crammed through this book in a day and took the exam and scored well above passing.

I gave 4 stars because the book arrived in bad condition. Pages 1-39 folded half way through
No complaints about the book.Whereas, I gave 4 stars because the book arrived in bad condition.Pages 1-39 folded half way through, all most all of the pages in the book had folding marks, signs of mishandling the package while it was packaged/shipped.I have never seen this kind of mishandling by Amazon shipping till date. So bit concerned.

Great for beginner but will need more
I do like this book, it was great on explaining with examples on the HTML portion, CSS but when it comes to JavaScript I feel that another book will be needed to get a more thorough explanation and examples.

Ordered just in case, probably should have saved my money
Ordered for exam, just in case I failed first attempt. Fortunately/unfortunately never had the chance to use this as I passed the exam a day before they arrived. The entire exam was focused around antiquated xmlhttprequest DIY AJAX, which is not stressed in this book as much as it is on the exam. Perhaps the questions are randomly selected?

Good primer
Good book, well written. Helped with exam preparation. Probably need more material to prepare for exam than in this book, but a good summary of concepts. The book has many typos and should have been edited.

Weak on Javascript - the most important exam topic
Because the exam covers such a wide range of technologies (HTML5/Javascript/and CSS3), this book glosses over many concepts. While this book provides an introduction to these technologies in most chapters the book does not cover important concepts in sufficient depth to pass the exam.In particular, Delorme Chapters on Objectives 1.5 and 1.6 do a very poor job of laying out the features of Javascript. The Javascript language has type, scoping and inheritance issues that are unique to its syntax. Programming in Javascript requires a solid understanding of these issues. I would recommend Dane Cameron’s book “HTML5 Javascript & JQuery” as a much better alternative to Delorme. Among the many Javascript outages in this book are:• === operator• Call and apply methods• This keyword – while covered on page 91 needs a great deal more explanation• ClosuresI would have preferred more and better coverage of the new HTML5 elements and less coverage of the many graphical elements that while interesting are not that important for the exam.I have found other “Exam Ref” books much more useful in preparing for exams than this book. I usually review the material in these books in the hours immediately before the exam to make sure I have a familiarity with all the topics which an exam will cover. I would recommend alternative summary materials for the Javascript portion of the exam.

The book is good but is basic
The book is good but is basic, you need read more documentation to deep in some concepts. You can go to Microsoft Virtual Academy for another course, or eDX

Four Stars
Very useful to help prepare. This book can not be used alone to prepare for the exam

Riddled with typos
It's riddled with typos and code samples, questions and answers that are mistyped and therefore wrong. It's very frustrating having to pick through and compare the text from the chapter, the questions and answers to see if you can decipher where they went wrong and what the actual answer is. If it wasn't for the typos it would be a reasonable resource.

It helps to pass the exam
It helped me to pass the exam. Unfortunately I find it quite overpriced and the book itself is not of great quality (under all aspects) and it's not really up to date so you will only be able to use it to focus on the content of the exam but no more than that.

This is the perfect exam preparation book that I have ever read.
I liked this book from the very beginning. It has a section dedicated to every different modules of the exam. I find it very well structured and would recommend it to anyone. In conclusion I will say that the exams are really hard but I am confident for my knowledge gained from this book.

I strongly recommend seeking out additional reading material if you want to ...
I passed this exam but not without a lot of additional studying. I don't think this book alone will give you anything more than a brief overview and a false sense of confidence. If hesitating between this book and "Training Guide Programming in HTML5 with JavaScript and CSS3 (MCSD): 70-480 (Microsoft Press Training Guide)" by Glenn Johnson, opt for the latter, it is more comprehensive. But either way, I strongly recommend seeking out additional reading material if you want to pass on the first try.
