Still fresh & relevant for 2023 & beyond
Incredible how today's issues were so plain to her so long ago. Very insightful. Must read for desiring fathers & husbands ... basically all men.

Unequaled [Comment updated in 2019]
This is the best book in breaking down and defining man - which the definition of the word "man" is "defining the masculinity of God". If you know who the author, Elizabeth's, first husband was you would know that she is more than qualified to write this book. I would have my son read this when he is a young man (preteen) and would give a copy to all teens (boys and girls) in my school if I had a school. It really set a standard in my life, a standard I will live by until the day of my death. A little known fact about masculinity, is a wife will always, always, be transparent to the level of the God-defining of her husband. The more I can soak in about God's design of man, the greater every facet of my life will be - my relationship with God first and foremost, my wife, my children, and my job, etc. Highly Recommend this all who were born male. Also, to women who want a standard/outline for their future husbands. By standard, I mean, how God actually created men. This was my new 2019 review edit of the book, and it still is my favorite book about men.

A Must-Read
Still single but longing for a wife, I read "The Mark of a Man" just after my fortieth birthday. This book clarified and reaffirmed what I've come to believe over fifteen years of studying the Bible. There are forty-four very short, concise, easy-to-read chapters. The first twenty chapters examine and clarify the wonderful differences God created between men and women. They focus more on what is a woman than what is a man. The last twenty-four chapters clarify God's intent for men in particular. Mrs. Elliot is Biblically sound. She is unabashedly, refreshingly, and at times humorously non-"feminist" -- while simultaneously being absolutely pro-woman and undeniably feminine. Her thoughts about gender roles may be regarded by some as old-fashioned, but in actuality, they are timeless. When men and women conduct their lives according to the principles Mrs. Elliot expounds, the world will be a more peaceful, harmonious place. This book is insightful and refreshing; a delight to read.As a reviewer of the earlier edition said, I also wanted to write Mrs. Elliot to thank her for this excellent work. I, too, felt like she was my aunt or my grandmother who sat me down and lovingly taught me what God expects of men in their relationships with women.I wish I had read "The Mark of a Man" when I was a teenager or in my early twenties.I regard this to be one of the best books I have ever read. I highly recommend this book for men and women, young and old alike.

A Brilliant Book!
This was a phenomenal read. Elliot wrote with such forceful grace, I was practically blown away on nearly every page! She says things about men and women that only a woman can, and only a woman who was widowed twice. The bite-size nature of the book--adapted from letters to her nephew Pete--makes it easy to read and study and ponder in portions. I'd highly recommend this book equally to men and women, both those looking to date/court/marry and for those already married. Read it and give to someone else to read!

Recommended for every adult.
I had my reservations about buying this book at first as i thought 'How can a woman teach me how to be a man?' I was very wrong! After reading the first few chapters i just couldn't put the book aside again as the author reaffirmed and clarified issues i had long been struggling with and issues i didn't know how to put into words. I bought 5 extra copies and gave them out as gifts this last Christmas. This is indeed a book for this generation which is dealing intensely with issues on sexuality confusion and identity crisis. We don't know what to expect from each other anymore but this book has put things into perspective from God's point of view. I would like to say Thank you to Elisabeth Elliot for speaking out the truth and helping to re-establish boundaries in the light of God's word.

Mother of Three Boys
Absolute read for every single, married, divorced woman. No matter if you're single by choice, abandoment or especially if you're dating or engaged. Scripture examined under a microscope for men/women's roles from creation as God communicates He intended them to be; recreated in personal letters from aunt to nephew. Refreshing, challenging, may be earth shattering (I hope!) for the feminist revolution. God created a romantic dance, if you will, between the sexes - and men were created to take the lead. That means women have a role to learn too - neither of us can dance without the other. Buy it - think about it!

Another gem by Elisabeth Elliot!
Elisabeth Elliot writes to her nephew Pete and lays out a methodical, yet insightful and personal case study of masculinity as modeled after the life of Jesus Christ. She shares many stories about her first husband, Jim Elliot, as well as other people she has counseled or known. I find her writing deep with conviction, scripturally sound and challenging. I would recommend this book to any man wanting to understand his earthly purpose and calling in the light of his relationship with Christ. It's also an excellent book for Christian women who want to understand their role as it relates to the men in their lives.

Exactly what a woman wants in man!
In the heart of most every woman is a deep desire to be lead and loved by a strong, godly man. It's true! This book shows women what to look for in a true man of God and shows men how to become one. Should be required reading for high school youth groups.

Godly insights of the man
I loved the author and the writing style. The message is very powerful and thought provoking of what I have thought of men and women, the role of a husband, wife, the father, mother...etc. Its a really good read.

Unclear
Whilst being a interesting read, I found the style very unclear and as a result I couldn't work out what the author is trying to say
