Opinel quality as expected
If you're looking for a lightweight bushcraft alternative to a small sickle for gathering grasses, herbs, and the like, look no further! This is exactly what I use it for, and it's never failed me. It has really cut down on the wear and tear on my hands during foraging excursions. Came very sharp, and is exactly what I've come to expect from Opinel: quality, affordability, and just plain old good looks.

Fantastic work horse...
As usual with anything Opinel, it's a fantastic workhorse of a knife, and an incredible value. Really writing this review to say to disregard anyone calling it "probably fake" because it doesn't lock in the closed position. Opinel has stated that due to the curvature of this blade, it will not lock in the closed position. They make that very clear ahead of time, and it's stated further on their website for this item. You'll get a darn good blade with any Opinel you purchase, and it will last a lifetime if you take care of it (especially if it's one of their carbon blades). If you're on the fence, get it.

I don't know about pruning but .....
I do not know about using this knife for pruning but last deer season I used this knife to umm "unzip" a deer.I couldn't find the knife I usually use but I had this one in the bottom of my pack for some reason.I just held the knife backwards so that the dull curved side was towards the insides of the animal and the blade was up towards the hide.. Worked unbelievably well after a little experimenting. I would even say that the job it did was comparable to a Montana knife... (hunters know what that is)Sorry if anyone is offended but that is what I used this knife for and it worked REALLY WELL.

Works wonders pruning bird of paradise plant
I saw a pruning knife like this one on a video when I was looking for help on how to prune my vastly overgrown bird of paradise plants. I had been using other garden shears and even an old kitchen knife to cut out last year's stalks, but the curved blade on this pruning knife was just what I needed! It gets in and around the stalks at the base and makes the job so much easier. My plants look better than they have in decades! All the old stalks have been easily pruned out. This knife is made for this task. I love it! It fits my hand nicely and folds up to safely tuck away the sharp blade.

great for clearing palm tree roots
bought knife for pruning but found the curved blade gets in the way of cutting when branches are too close together. knife is sharp but did not "lock" when cutting in the direction away from a person. had to clear some palm tree roots when repairing a sprinkler line and found this curved knife great for cutting through the dirt and hacking the queen palm roots. using this knife for root cutting (up to 1/2 inch in diameter) is wonderful because you don't have to clear away dirt and then use shears or a lopper to cut the roots.review update--knife does lock but the Virobloc on my knife only engages "lock" in open position by twisting the Virobloc counter-clockwise. the stop area is about 1/16" and does work loose when cutting roots in the dirt which then releases the "lock." the Yatagan style is good for root cutting but was slightly awkward for trimming/pruning such as removing unripen figs. recommend highly to clear vegetation around sprinkler lines since you can hook the roots and cut also under and around the pvc pipes due to knife's shape and slim profile. planning to get the Opinel garden knife to do pruning.

Works as advertised
Ordered these to use in cutting out diseased spore on an old tree I wanted to save. I had seen one like it in aYouTube video I watched. When I searched Amazon, this one looked just like the one I saw the video. Expert hadsaid it was right size, etc. So I was very happy to find it. It worked perfectly to do what I needed done. Very sharp, but designed in a way to avoid accidents. Used with a pair of special pruning gloves I also bought on Amazon.Worked very well! Glad to now have it in my tool box for future needs. Pretty adaptable.

Happy with the knife, but bad QC.
Just received this knife, the box was absolutely destroyed and the blade had plant residue all over it. The blade also had a chip out of it. Not happy about the state of it, as it is a very obviously used knife, but it’s nothing that can’t get cleaned up and a quick sharpen. Tis going to be more abused than that. Not an Opinel issue, Opinels are amazing. The three stars is for Amazon’s quality control. The knife itself is still a five.

it's an Opinel so yes it's good
Opinel is the brand of pocket knife for the working class: rugged, sturdy, usually on the cheap side you don't mind losing one or getting one rusty. If you take care of your Opinel you might keep it a life time. This one is very specific due to its shape and a bit pricier than the other Opinels I own, so I will take care of it a bit more. One thing: do not forget to lock the blade when opened, it is a manual step and could save you an unpleasant surprise.
