Q: When open, is the spout at right angles to th edownspout, or does it pitch downward? If so, about what angle?

It opens fully at a right angle. . Am very happy with it, particularly being able to close it(winter months or if rain barrel is full)

Q: My down spouts are round with a 4" diameter. Will a round peg fit in a rectangular hole?

I doubt it. I have 3 rain barrels for my downspouts. One of them may be square but more rectangular and the divertor won't fit!!! Lowes may have an adapter that you will need!!

Q: What are the dimensions of the top, I see the bottom is smaller and is 2.5x3.5

The item tapers as it goes downward. My downspout is 2.5 inches deep and 3.5 inches wide and there is room to adjust fit. It will probably fit if you slide the diverter into the upper and lower spout. I used pop rivets to get it to hold. Hope this helps. I really like mine, particularly when it comes time to close it up in the late fall.
