Love Love Love this French Press
I also own one of the expensive, name-brand, one cup, coffee makers, but I've never been able to find a coffee for that pot which is strong enough without being bitter. It is faster and more convenient to use, but after drinking coffee from a French Press, it would be impossible for me to go back to drinking coffee from that type pot, or any other type pot for that matter. After a few weeks of drinking coffee made in this French press pot, we went on quick 3 days vacation to the beach. I ordered coffee at a well known, breakfast focused restaurant. I used to love their coffee, but I couldn't even drink it because I had gotten hooked on French press coffee. I had to order a different beverage and let the coffee sit there and get cold. On future trips to the beach and on any other trips that don't require us to get on an airplane, I will be taking my French Press with me. I missed having a good cup of coffee when I was sitting on the deck overlooking the Gulf and listening to the waves. My first French Press coffee pot was made of very thin glass, so I wouldn't have been able to travel with it without being afraid it would break. It was supposed to be dishwasher safe on the top rack. It wasn't! The glass was so thin ot broke in the dishwasher after only a few months of use. This French press has three features which, in my opinion, makes it the best choice. First, it is made of stainless steal, which makes it unbreakable and easy to take on trips,. It also has a layer of insulation, which is encapsulated between an inner layer and outer layer of stainless steel. The insulation helps keep the coffee warmer between your first and second cups. I added one of the extra screens to the press. I think it helped cut down the amount of grinds and sludge that gets through the press. I have yet to find any coffee grinds in my cup. If you a coffee connoisseur, you probably should stop reading now; otherwise, my opinion, as a non-connoisseur, might not match your coffee sensibilities. According to the coffee connoisseurs online, you have to make French Press coffee a very precise way. You can find all kinds of "perfect" ways to make it because the connoisseurs don't even agree. Don't let that scare you away from getting this perfect French Press pot and following come simple steps to get the best coffee ever. It is not rocket science. If I listened to them, I would spend a lot of money for new burr coffee grinder to make sure my coffee is perfectly ground. According to them, the coffee would be bitter, or worse, if not ground correctly. WRONG!. The grinder I have doesn't have any settings for the type grind you want. In fact. it isn't even an automatic grinder. I have to hold down a button while it grinds the coffee, and I have to release the button to stop it when I think the beans have been ground to the exact coarseness needed for a French Press. According to the coffee connoisseurs online, you need a coarse grind to make the best French Press coffee. They would probably think I over grind the beans with my cheap grinder. I read one article by a serious coffee connoisseurs that said that only a burr grinder hits the beans at just the right angle to get te best flavor out of the beans. They seriously need to get a life. It is almost impossible to manually stop a cheap grinder at just the right time. If I stop it too soon, there will be some whole beans that didn't get touched. I've tried grinding too little and too much, and the only difference was NOT in the flavor. It is in the amount of sludge you get in the bottom of your cup. The more coarse grind, might end up with little or not sludge, but it requires using more coffee to get the best flavor. You will get a small amount of sludge if you grind the beans too much, unless you grind them into dust. If you grind into dust, you will et a lot of sludge. If a small amount of sludge in the bottom of your cup bothers you, then you will probably need to buy this French press and a more expensive Burr grinder. I probably won't buy one because I'm too cheap and the small amount of settlement in my cup doesn't bother me. I just thought I would mention it in deference to the serious coffee connoisseurs, who will probably hate this review. They will especially NOT like this..... On occasion, when I've run out of coffee beans, I have used ground coffee right out of the bag to make French Press coffee in this pot. Other than leaving a little more sludge in the bottom of my cup, I could not tell the difference in the flavor. Here is my "recipe" for making a good cup of French Press coffee. Just remember, this is not rocket science, so it doesn't matter if you make it differently. I'm not into perfection, but I do like to use bottled water or filtered water because I don't like the tap water in the country where we live. I use the scoop that came with this pot to measure 4-1/2 scoops of course to medium ground coffee (3-1/2 scoops if my husband wants a cup because he doesn't like it as strong). I heat the water until small bubbles start to form on the bottom of the pan. The coffee connoisseurs are strict about this stage. They say don't let the water boil. I've let it boil and the sky doesn't fall and it didn't taste any different. I did have to add a teaspoon of crushed ice to cool it off enough to drink, but it stayed warmer for my second cup. I can't say this enough IT DID NOT change the flavor. The really serious coffee connoisseurs say only use a wooden spoon to stir the coffee. I've used every type of spoon and spatula that I own. The sky didn't fall and the flavor DIDN'T CHANGE.. Seriously, some of these people need to get a life. The one thing I agree with them about is the amount of time it needs to sit before serving. It should sit for 4 minutes. I set the timer on my microwave.

Well made, good quality for the price!
At first I was a bit disappointed. When I first opened it up the I immediately noticed a small blemish on the finish on the top of the unit. However it was not pitted, or marred, it was just slightly discolored. From there I was nothing but impressed. I bought this to replace a glass one that I accidentally dropped in the sink and broke into a million pieces. When I purchase something I want it to be something that will last and the French press I was given was pretty, but it didn't last very long, which is why I went with stainless steel on this one.The construction on this press is amazing and I really didn't expect something this well made for the price. It's double walled which will keep the coffee hot much longer than my old glass one did. I didn't want one with anything plastic and this certainly holds up to that requirement. Another HUGE perk is the way the plunger is constructed. On my old one there was a small button on the bottom that unscrewed and could easily be lost down the drain if you weren't careful. This one has that bit made into the bottom so that there is no fear of losing a small part. It comes with extra filters but the filter it comes with already attached seems substantial enough not to have to worry about it wearing out very soon, but time will tell. The coffee measure is also a nice add on as it is also well made, all stainless and can clip onto the coffee bag (which I don't use, I always pour my grounds into an airtight container) to hold it closed.I highly recommend this if anyone is looking for quality at a decent price. Honestly, the small discoloration in the top is not enough for me personally to remove a full star because it just isn't something that is going to affect the way it performs or how long it lasts which is most important to me.

Stainless Steel French Press for a Great Price
My first SS French Press and love it! Think this one could be hard to beat for the sale price (about $22 for me). I got this to step up from my much loved glass Bodum Brazil.Pros:Stainless steel looks great, won't break, and holds heat MUCH better.Cool to touch, because double walled.Lid seats tight in pot, and plunger shaft pretty tight in lid. Easy one handed plunge! (Don't know why this is so hard for others to do!)Not much silt and no grinds slipping by. At least as good as Bodum, and much better than a few that were returned.Coffee is hotter when time to pour (double walled SS), and seems a bit better brewed which I attribute to holding heat well, too.Easy to clean and can clean hot without fear of breaking glass.Extra screens! Nice bonus.Cons (always a few, eh?):Can't see plunge, of course.Afraid of SS rust/pitting - but no issues at all after 10 days. Hopefully will continue. Is a bit tall and thin. Have to twist and turn to hit everything with gooseneck kettle, but not a problem for me. Kind of like it so far.Feel like I should clean and dry as soon as possible after using. No leaving it for later as I did couple times a week with Bodum.Screen assembly isn't the best, but very functional.End of spring on top plate was sticking out when received. But, was easy to take care of with needle nose pliers.Plunge handle and bottom plates both threaded on to shaft. Can be problematic as handle spins off, instead of bottom loosening. Would have been SOL without silicone jar opener on first cleaning. May try the handle mod mentioned in another review.
