This is the enchanting sequel to the Emmy Award-winning “Anne of Green Gables”, in which Anne Shirley makes the transition from a romantic, impetuous orphan to an outspoken, adventurous and accomplished young teacher. After the wedding of her best friend, Diana Barry, and a proposal from Gilbert, Anne decides to leave Avonlea to accept a teaching post at Kingsport Ladies College. In order to succeed, Anne must win over the icy Katherine Brooke and endure tormenting from the snobby Pringle family. But Anne finds a kindred spirit in Emmeline Harris, who is being raised by her cranky grandmother, Margaret Harris, and wants nothing more than to be loved by her absent father, Morgan Harris. Anne and Emmeline become fast friends, and Anne quickly forces her way into the Harris family and ultimately changes their lives. However, after a chance encounter with Gilbert, Anne begins to re-evaluate what is important to her. A surprise question from Morgan Harris makes Anne realize how much she

Nostalgia meets a good story
I will forever love Anne of Green Gables and Anne of Avonlea. Rewatching this series with my daughter was like cuddling up in a comfy blanket and enjoying a cup of tea. I recommend this series of videos to anyone who loves family-focused, funny and sweet stories of finding yourself and being loved.

Good, Clean Family Fun
One of my favorites from growing up. No other Anne series is done to the quality of this set. Love sharing this with my kids.

This is a timeless classic, done to perfection
If only productions like this were the rule and not the exception. I'll leave the other long reviews to explain the plot and name the characters. I have the first two and finally am ordering the 3rd where Anne and Gilbert are together as they should be. Should have bought the boxes set, but I didn't know when I bought these how they fit together (I have one with Kim Braden as well but it's not in this league). The story line is well known, but how this was filmed makes it all seamless as the story unfolds. Megan Follows does a wonderful job balancing Anne's temper with her compassion. You just don't see this enough in stories. The normal Hollywood drivel that I don't bother with anymore makes people seem one-dimensional, with some struggles, but not the clear 2 sides that many of us face. How some wrongs set us off but how much we long to make them right again. Anne's ability to talk bluntly but sweetly is a testament to Montgomery's wonderful storytelling, and a first-class combination of script writer, director and producer. Megan Follows portrays Anne in a way that makes it seem like she really is Anne. I suppose once you start watching you might as well believe that. The production is first rate. The masterful choice of the locations, the scenery and the indoor sets make it feel like we're there and wish we could talk with the characters. It's hard to describe, but this just doesn't come across as contrived. It isn't the in-the-face closeness that Hollywood is now known for, but it isn't the perennial distance shots that they used in the 50's and earlier either. There is a great balance for when something should be close and when it should show the setting and provide a very realistic context - because in real life the context matters a lot about how we feel about things. The feeling of the college and the Harris' place, come to mind here. You want to walk down those streets and see it for yourself. The choices for Mr and old Mrs Harris were perfect. The way the picnic was handled stellar. These are points that really make the store come alive. The cranky old woman who finally becomes herself before passing away are what make stories about Anne such a joy to watch. The "mean girl" student who finally comes around through kindness instead of harsh discipline. I could go on.This is a story you have to experience.

Also known as "Anne of Avonlea"
I grew up watching this on VHS, so the DVD quality is an improvement. Although, having a double-sided disc is not an improvement, in my opinion. There are no behind the scenes extras. But if you love Megan Follows and Jonathan Crombie, you'll enjoy reliving their rocky "Anne and Gilbert" romance, cheering for the dear folks of Avonlea--and the new friends (and foes?) Anne makes away from home.
