The small blade is great for tearing out roots
I have a lot of bothersome field grass invading my planting areas. The roots are really thick and long and attach to other bunches of grass as far as 18 inches away. Pulling it out by hand works when the ground is moist but my hands cramp from the effort. The Cape Cod Weeder eliminates a lot of that pain by breaking the job down into easier tasks. For simple weeds like dandelions, it's easy to just place the points head and pull back, tearing the plant apart and pulling the root up. But for the tough, rhizomes in grasses, the point helps to cut and loosen the soil. Sometimes it tears the root apart. When the soil is looser, it helps to pull the roots out. The direction of the force you're using is key here. By getting the tip just into the soil and pulling back toward your body, you're using the big muscles in your arms and back as opposed to the pinching muscles in your hand. It makes a lot of difference. The small tip is also good for tilling the soil between close plants. I can break it up where it's compacted without damaging the nearby plants, or I can lightly scrub it back and forth to get the tiny weeds that are just emerging. It's very precise. I'm quite pleased and the construction is very solid. The funny shape of the handle even works to your advantage, allowing you to hold it better when pulling against dry soil or tougher roots.

You will love this weeder!
My mother-in-law is a master gardener she's went to college for gardening and that is what she does full-time . This is by far her favorite garden tool. Because she is in her garden so often she just simply takes the weeds for the top of the soil using this tool.I also have a very very large garden but have recently been suffering carpal tunnel. My garden was let go for close to two years I' now have many weeds to deal with Including poison ivy . I wanted to get all of the weeds by the route especially the poison ivy. This tool also became my favorite in the garden - it was able to take everything by the root and remove it for good .I would highly recommend this product to anyone. You can remove weeds yet keep all of your plants in place It's very well-made, extremely high quality, and will last a lifetime it taken care of ! You just don't find products made this well anymore .I received a product follow up email immediately after receiving it offering help to any questions I may have . If more people took pride in their work as the maker of this product does America truly would be great again!

The handle came off within 10 minutes of use. Don't waste your money on the tool from this vendor.
Used my wife's tool (from a different vendor, for weeding. Decided to get my own. Didn't ask where she got her's from. BIG MISTAKE. The handle came off of this tool in less than 10 minutes. We hafe used my wife's tool for multiple years and it never came apart.DO NOT Waiste GOOD money on this tool. You should not have to try to fix it the first time you try to use it. Once it's out, you can put it back in but, it rotates around and comes out within a couple of strokes.

An accurate, efficient weeder.
This weeder is ideal for use in raised bed gardens where you're stooping down or on your hands and knees. The work end is made of stainless steel. This is not a replacement for a hoe which is used standing up. The hook is small and can easily, and accurately, cut weeds/roots that are shallow as well as deeper. The tool can handle small as well as larger, tougher roots. The only complaint I have is that the shaft of the tool is round and came loose in the handle after only 4 or 5 hours of use. I will try epoxying the shaft in the handle, but another way of affixing the shaft in the handle, like a rivet, would be better.
