Weaver Leather Breakaway Fuse (3-Pack) , Brown

Very easy to assemble, nicely tanned leather, high quality Chicago screws. These tabs can turn just about any halter into a breakaway halter. Get a box cutter to remove the halter piece between the buckle and the ring, then substitute one of these. It's more unobtrusive than the crown piece breakaways and works just as well. I bought this replacement package after my mare caught her halter on a stall fitting while she was playing with it right after I brought her in from the pasture. The previous breakaway piece, also a Weaver, snapped as she tossed her head, just as it should. Safe horse, no vet bills, a couple of dollars for a quick replacement. These fuses allow me to buy any especially pretty or padded fleece comfort halter I want, then convert it. I'll never put an unconverted halter on my horse. One sharp twist of the neck can end their working days. Why risk it?

I used this a a replacement breakaway fuse on my Lami-Cell halters and it worked just as well as the original fuses which had dry rotted from age. The leather is supple and easy to bend into the proper shape. They come with the necessary chicago screws to fasten them onto the halter, which are also have a nice decorative flower embossed into the metal, which was an unexpected nice touch. You can hand tighten the chicago screws, but to be sure they are nice and tight, you will need a flat-head screwdriver to finish the job. I will happily order these again when I need new ones!

These straps are meant for the types of breakaway halters that have a small leather connector on one side of the halter-- not the kind where the entire headstall top strap is leather. They work well and include the needed chicago screws. The leather is thin-- but it needs to be in order to fold for the attachments and to ensure it breaks if something terrible should happen and your pastured horse gets hung up on something.

I've ordered these several times and no horse farm can be without. Easy to convert your halters into "safety" halters with these breakaway tabs & comes w/ the necessary chicago screws. I don't turn out my horses in halters, but for those who wear them, breakaways are essential to avoid injuries in the field.

Product is as pictured, met expectations. Not very high quality, but looks fine and works as intended. Would order again if needed.

I love these and have purchased them more than once. These are a great way to make ANY halter a safety halter. I really hate the look of the breakaway halters with the leather piece that runs ear to ear, ALL the way across the poll - totally wrecks the look of a lot of otherwise nice looking halters. My horse is an idiot so these have been a life saver on a couple occasions - literally. So now I have them on all of her halters. Great peace of mind that she won't hurt herself with her halter.

Turns any horse halter into a breakaway. Your are not limited to purchasing a reduced selection of special halters with the breakaway feature (leather strap across the neck, yuck). Cut away one of the short halter straps, connect the breakaway and your done. Five minutes at most. Before using breakaways, I had four episodes of my horses being trapped having caught their halters on a fence or tangled in a tree limb (one very serious). Since using breakaways, I have had two more similar episodes but the breakaways worked. (FYI, I have transmitters on all the halters so I can track down what happened). Please, never never free range you horses without breakaways.

I keep a package of these in my tack box for when my horse loses his halter. Keeping these and spare halters on hand and you are never without a turnout halter when a turnout halter is required by your boarding barn.These are of high quality, soft and easy to use and install.I would highly recommend these turnout fuses and the seller.
