Use proper trimmers and proper trim technique
This is a great little trimmer; I think I will buy a couple more to give to my puppy buyers. Nail trims should not be traumatic for either pet or owner if done correctly. I know you want to get it over as quickly as possible, but don't make the mistake of just taking one big whack off each nail. That is what hurts, that is what bleeds and that is what is making the whole thing a terrible ordeal. If you have a sharp trimmer like this one (that is nice and easy to hold), start by taking off some of the nail from the top, then side to side, not just one whack at the front of the nail. Incremental trimming makes the "quick" (the part that bleeds) actually recede, so there is less and less to trim every time. Once you take off the top and sides, then use the mini-Dremel to round off the edges nicely. If you trim every two weeks, pick a day so you know its time, pretty soon the nail will be nice and short and the foot will be tight - and not a horrible experience for either. This is the way all dogs' nails should be trimmed and you will not believe how much it helps at all ages, but especially for old dogs. Long nails make them stand wrong, so it is much more harmful to their bodies as they age. Keep the nails short and trimmed and your aging doggie will stay "young" and active much longer. JMO.

Works good, but screw and nut loosened.
The clippers are good. The only comment I have on them is the first time I used them the screw and nut holding them together loosened up and it cut the nail and the cutter rotated while I was cutting. It didn't hurt my dog, but it would of if I didn't do it real fast. Other than that I like them.

Junk
I bought these because of the good reviews but they turned out to be a piece of junk! Too dull for my bulldogs nails and they don't have spring, getting stuck closed all the time. What a waste of a product and good money spent. Goes to show you, you cannot always rely on reviews.

Not none of me man!
Never never never never ever will I use this on my pet again. I went to clip her nails, I have had dogs all my life. Hers are easy to see if they are white and pink. I cut her nails and I cut four of them and make them bleed. She wouldn't have anything to do with me for the rest of the night From now on if she is going to the groomers and I'll pay the $5 to let Julie do it for me.

My dogs hate me a little less now...
I have two high-strung chihuahua mixes who HATE to get their nails trimmed. It is a huge ordeal in our house whenever it comes time to trim the dogs' nails. One of us (usually my husband) has to hold and soothe the dog while the other trims the nails (usually my job). The dogs get upset, my husband gets frustrated trying to deal with a suddenly-possessed dog, and my toddler gets this look on his face like, "what the hell is going on?!" Meanwhile, I try to do my best Cesar Milan impression and practice "calm, dominant energy."We tried taking them to the vet for nail trims, and it was a similar situation as described above (only with more people involved).I tried Pedi-Paws, guillotine trimmers, and even an expensive trimmer with a "quick sensor." Epic failures. Noisy, too large, bent nails instead of cutting them, etc. etc. etc. I came across these clippers and decided to give them a try. They are so much more efficient because they circle around the nail and cut from both sides as you squeeze. They cut smoothly, quietly, and quickly.I don't think I will ever discover anything (other than heavy sedation) that will make my dogs be 100% cooperative during nail-trimming, but at least these trimmers are quick, effective, and easy to use. Now, the nail-trimming sagas don't last as long and I feel like my dogs hate me a little less...

It's a different style than we've used before. It cuts all the nails well on our 22lb beagle mix, except for the "thumb". She still has those on her front paws and the angle with these clippers is hard to get those properly. They are sharp and do the rest of the nails well.

Sturdy Safe and Effective
The Ebelyn nail clippers for large and medium sized dogs was a great find and for the price a great value too. These pet nail clippers are built nice and tough. You can tell they will last a long time. What's nice about these nail clippers is that they are easy to use. They have a spring that connects the two hand grip pieces for a nice tension so that as you cut the nail you can feel the progress of the cut. The blade itself is not particularly sharp but it is designed in a way to make a clean cut. The design of the blades (the area where the nail goes) is beveled/curved so you know exactly what and how much nail you are cutting. This is important so that you don't accidentally cut the paw.The main parts of this device are made of steel so it should last a long time. The handles are covered in a hard rubber like material which makes gripping it more secure and comfortable. Finally, the nail cutter has a nice safety feature to it that I wasn't expecting which is a nice added touch (especially if you have children). At the end of one handle there is a latch that slides in/out to connect to the other handle keeping the nail cutters in a closed position (the latch itself is almost unnoticeable because it is part of the design.) That way your young children can't open it and try using the nail clippers for who knows what!Good value. Good design. Good materials. Recommend.
