Worked perfectly as a cache in my Synology RS3621XS+
I used to use Dell servers with 120TB of RAID 10 to run Axis Camera station but their prices kept climbing and when they hit $30K I switches to Synology. Great reliable NAS and the solution is half the price of the Dell. I also run Camera station as a VM on the same NAS. This cache helps with with the Windows VM.

It'll store your bits
Bought for a DS923+ and it's worked flawlessly as I would expect of a 1st part unit. Happy to pay the cost for no worries about hardware compatibility.

Synology has you locked in...
Synology has tried more to lock down their media and expansions, especially in the upper range of the product lineup. While you can find workarounds for the hard-disk nags and warnings about unsupported drives, I'm not so sure about SSD cache drives - I didn't try it, and these work OK but are quite pricey for what you get in capacity and performance. You're not going to get Gen 4x4 throughput here, and ultimately you need two drives to have some redundancy if you want to use them as cache. If you cache the metadata and such it does improve directory operations nicely, so it's worth doing it if you have a lot of files.
