Treasure Island (Penguin Clothbound Classics) Review: Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson - This book is a hard-cover book with an unusual design on all sides of the cover. It has a nice face page followed by the Table of Contents which is well set up, followed by an Introduction which gives a good history of Robert Louis Stevenson. Although the book was originally written more for boys, several of my friends and I enjoyed the book in our pre-teen years. There is also a page of "Suggestions for Further Reading." The book is broken up into six areas each with three to seven parts. Pre-teens and teens may find the book interesting as it contains mystery and much adventure which takes place back in the days of large sailing ships and pirates. There is an APPENDIX A: 'MY FIRST BOOK" (1894) and APPENDIX B: TALES OF A TRAVELLER at the end of the book. Adults who like adventure stories might enjoy this book as well. Review: Good read - More of a children's book

Beautiful copy
I didn't realize that Penguin books were putting out the classics with this beautiful cloth cover! I'm going to start collecting them all. They are perfect! I appreciate the ribbon bookmark, so you never have to go looking for a proper bookmark when you've lost it.

cover art not as depicted
you can find better reviews of the book - i like it, but don't love it - but i wanted to note that this is NOT the cover of the book i received. it *is* a Penguin Classics edition, but it has a guy sorting through golf on the cover.

A fine edition of a classic adventure story.
The text is eminently readably. John Seelye's Introduction is learned and accessible.

It is a great book to read. Love the cloth cover and the string place holder.

Great book - perilous packaging
I’ve always loved Treasure Island - this review should in no way reflect on the story because that is strictly 5 stars. However, every book lover knows stickers on the cover are menaces, at best. Well this cloth-bound version arrived with a sticker slapped on the back (not on the same version in B&N). It removed easily…BUT peeled off part of the artwork printed underneath. I had a similar sticker encounter earlier this year when I purchased The Color Purple from Amazon. Never had the problem before this year. Please, please, PLEASE…end my pain, use better stickers for books or just nix the stickers.

The book is floppy. The Cover feels matt. Page and Print quality is also good. Just a little disappointed as the last page of the book was a little torn. Overall, a great purchase though.

I love the Penguin Classics range of clothbound books. I bought Treasure Island as a birthday gift for my brother, and he adored it. He's never read it before, and he barely waited for cake to come out before getting stuck into it! The clothbound classics are just gorgeous gifts, and the cover on Treasure Island was beautiful. A fantastic classic tale, and a gorgeous edition that is well worth a place on any bookshelf.

This is a brilliant story and the binding and general presentation of the book are excellent. The introduction, however, can/should be skipped!
