Traveler's Company Brass Pin

I was skeptical at first, but this pencil is a great holder for stubbies. It is very light and easy to hold and well balanced. The pencil writes very smooth. It is held in the bullet end very tightly. A downside is the refills are a little pricy. I am using it all the time and am running through my refill box rather quickly. If you can find round pencils and cut them down will work. If you have to use a hex pencil scrape the hex edges to round off the pencil it should be fine. just be careful not to bend the holder. The brass turns to a tarnished look which I like. If you like the shiny brass, you will need to polish it from time to time. The eraser is rather large, but it is very soft and works well. I confess I have problems with mechanical pencils. I can render one completely useless in a matter of moments. That's why I was so intrigued by this Traveler's pencil. No mechanical parts!! Instead, it makes use of what I think of as a "scorekeeping" pencil, the kind you use to keep score when bowling or playing golf. The one provided has a hard lead so you can get a good, clear line. It's also easy to sharpen. A soft-ish pink eraser is provided. A replacement pack of a couple of pencils plus an eraser is available for a rather steep price. A better idea is to order the short pencils, which are pennies apiece. I plan to order replacement erasers only when. necessary. This partners up into a handsome set with the Traveler's brass pen.

Like the plastic advertising give-away pencil holders once common in the American Midwest, the holder seems designed to work with round pencils like "Ebony" and similar brands. To hold a stub or piece of a standard North American hexagonal pencil like "Col-erase" or "Paper Mate" securely, I wrapped a strip of index card around the pencil before putting it in the small bullet-shaped end. A colleague used tape, which worked about as well for this but left adhesive residue on the pencil and the holder. A useful product; glad to have it.

This is a nice little pencil for taking along anywhere.

I write everything in hard copy, including my schedule--in pencil. I carry the traveler's pencil with me every day and use it and use it and use it some more; three replacement pencils last approximately six months, and in that time I usually go through one replacement eraser. But the quality and consistency of the product are beyond reproach! If you are, as I am, an inveterate writer, you may come away saying what I do: this is the only pencil you will ever need or want.

This is an excellent product if you need to have a compact pencil that can be stored in a pocket yet can maintain a sharp point. Also, if you like brass, and understand how it changes color over time with use, it is a good collector's item.

This is my second bullet pencil the first being Midori brand and this being the new Traveler's brand. Both are really convenient and nice to hold. But this one feels much more sturdy and has a bit more weight to it which I really like. Overall a really nice pencil which I believe I will be using for a number of years.
