If I remember correctly (I looked up the history when I purchased it), it is handmade in a village in a southeastern Asian country, maybe Thailand. It is not mass produced in China. I really enjoy using mine & consider it a work of art as well as a workhorse.

Q: Would this work to take a smaller sized pizza pie out of the oven or is it too curved for that?

I believe it would work but a spatula would work too. It's nice wood but I use mine for stirring my very large pot when canning sauces.

Q: how thick is this paddle, both handle and wide end? Need sturdy for with use in heavy duty bread mixer.

I use it to make chili 6 gallons at a time and it works great.
