PMP Exam Prep (4th Edition)

A how-to primer on passing the PMP exam!
This is an excellent study guide for PMI's PMP exam. Rita focuses on what you need to know for the exam. You can cover all the material in the book in about 2-3 days depending on your project management experience and familiarity with the PMBOK. In particular, the practice tests after each chapter are invaluable. They will help you understand the thought process required for the PMP exam. Many of the questions have more than one correct answer but the trick is to pick the most correct answer. Learning how to do that is crucial to passing and obtaining a good score. In addition to this book, I also read Kim Heldman's PMP Study Guide. I recommend that highly as well. It follows more of a text book format and is an excellent supplement to the workbook-like PMP Exam Prep.BTW., I passed the exam with ease and a lot of credit goes to Rita and Kim's study guides.

Good with summarizing concepts and practice questions
This book does a good job of picking out concepts from each PMBOK chapter and lists these in a concise format in bullets or short paragraphs that are easy to refer back to when preparing for the PMP exam. It also does a good job of organizing questions at the end of each chapter that I thought are slightly tougher than the ones in the actual exam.I was able to use this guide effectively in conjunction with the PMBOK and pass the PMP in the first go.

An essential book - but not the only book to pass the exam
Hi,This book is good from exam point of view. The cost of others calling this "great" is probably $1000+ for some 3-day classroom courses either with Rita or with cheetahlearning etc. Passing the exam only with the help of this book is impossible. This book covers the key points for the exam. This book keeps reading more interesting and easier. But number of practice questions are very less (only 30 questions from each chapter. Passing only with this book is impossible. The highlight of Rita's book is the time and cost chapter - she has done a great job in those two topics.Remember PMBOK IS the bible. Other book that you might want to consider is from ESI. I bought their practice exam guide. When you compare Rita's book with ESI's practice exam guide, ESI has 40 questions on each topic and one set of 200 questions exam as in the real exam. ALL of ESI's questions are directly from PMBOK. Believe me they are hard to answer. If someone scores over 75% in ESI's practice exam, they will score 80% in the actual exam. From my friends' circle, all who passed the exam - including me - either attended an expensive course or bought an expensive CD for practice exam. I bought Rita's PM Fastrack - very expensive one - VERY USEFUL. Lot of PMBOK study+PM Fastrack = my success.Hope this helps

Hats off
The PMP handbook and other materials that I used, including notes from IIL.com and Dr.Harold Kerzner made me feel that this is such a dry subject and was very uncomfortable taking the exam. But it was a pleasantly surprising experience, while reading thru Rita's book. PMP preparation was rejuvenating and interesting; she explains topics frequently from the exam point of view.. but still makes us knowledgeable. The questions at the end of each chapter were stimulating and intersting. With in a month, I was confident of taking the exam; I cleared the exam today with the score of approx. 160.If you want to take the PMP exam, please do read this book; its worth every penny of it. A definite buy !!

Thank You Rita!
Write down the formulas as soon as you sit down--paid off big. This way you do not have to keep recalling them (and there are some tricky questions that require you to know the formulas pat).Follow this type of advice from Rita's book and you will pass. Everything she said was true and really focused my study. I spent 1 day reading her book and working through the exercises (plus 15 years experience). I passed! Her questions were very similar to the actual exam. If you know this book, you should have no problem passing the exam.

Rita Mulcahy's PMP Exam Prep turned on some lights
Rita's book is candid and straight forward. The book was a great compliment to the PMBOK giving hints, tricks, and great practice tests. I studied the PMBOK first then used Rita's book to round out my knowledge. I only took 2 hours 15 minutes out of 4 hours to take the test and passed.

Old Version
Caution! The book with the blue cover is the 4th edition of Rita's book. I misread the title, and thought it was Rita's book for the 4th edition of the PMBOK. I bought the wrong book, and I regret it. Frankly, I don't know why Amazon still sells this version. I recommend that you either buy the 6th edition (which Rita actually wrote herself) or the 7th edition which was published post-humously. (Both of these have yellow covers.)

Rita nicely simplifies the PMBOK and writes a far more readable version. RIP
