Outstanding, reliable, effective tool for businessmen
The DYMO CardScan v9 is a Godsend for me. I am in marketing and attend dozens of trade shows and conferences each year collecting networking contacts and customer leads non-stop. It isn't uncommon to get home from an event with 50 to 75 cards I need to get into my contact list and into a database for lead nurturing. In most cases this device and software captures all the information on the card with absolute accuracy requiring no editing on my part. With some of the more insane card designs out there I will have to edit the data captured, but that isn't hard and I still save hours getting the business card data into Outlook and SFDC. The biggest plus for me, however, is the software's ability to interpret international phone numbers and addresses. My employer issued me a competing product and while it worked okay, it did not integrate into MS Office and it could not handle non-US addresses or phone numbers. That was a non-starter for me.Another cool feature of the CardScan v9 software is the ability to scan any image of a card. I can take a photo of a business card with my smartphone and use CardScan to get all the data into Outlook and SFDC.I love this product. it saves me dozens of man-hours at work each month.

Installation Nightmare
I am anxious to use this scanner. However, the CD that came with it was unreadable. When I went to download the software and put in the serial number and a cryptic number that is unidentified but seems to be the serial number of the software (located on the disc sleave) the web site comes up with an error code that same only to use numbers and dashes. Since there is no number anywhere with that configuration I then put the CD in another computer and low and behold it reads the CD and then I download it to my computer. Then I go to register it after following the meager instructions provided. It seems that 63427-E98PCc6 number that is on the CD case is now called a "product code" (not sure what the serial number is or even if I would know where to find it. Well none of that works and I am prompted to call customer support Monday through Friday. AllI can say is I hope this software and scanner works well because I will return it is I have any more problems. It makes we think that whoever is charge of this product hasn't thought through a whole lot of basic issues which does not give me hope for the future on this thing.

Great business card scanner and software
Have been using an older B&W CardScan 60 for many years and loved it. Upgraded to new computer, Windows 7 64-bit and old hardware was no longer supported, which is not surprising. So I bought this new CardScan 800C and love it. The V9 software installed without a hitch and works better than older version. My old contacts database was read into the new software without problem. There are fewer mistakes in the OCR, although this may be a function of the new scanner vs. the new software. Looked into a phone app to scan cards, but many complaining reviews. This true hardware scanner purpose built for business cards probably performs much better than phone applications. One problem has cropped up; occasional lost usb connection. I have solved this by unplugging, restarting, then plugging back in. Bit of a hassle. Plus the unit bottom would get warm. So now I simply leave it unplugged until I need it; plug in; start software; do my scanning; and disconnect. This will probably allow the scanner to live longer too.Overall, very happy with the new CardScan 800C/v9.

Open Directory Support
This is a delightful scanner, it really is. It's fast-ish, with some nice OCR'ing going on. I don't use it's software for contact management, just export into a few other things, so I can't quite comment on that, but what I can comment on is its lack of Open Directory support - it just doesn't work. I found that out after a dismal 45 minute phone call with their support, which tried to troubleshoot (consisting of an uninstall and reinstall) the problem, and eventually came to the conclusion that "It just won't work, it's not supported." Totally their prerogative to provide support for some platforms and not others, but I would love it if they mentioned that anywhere in their lit or online, or if their internal support even had that listed (it would have saved a nice bit of my day from hold music). So, if you are assuming that this will work just fine on a clients computer, utilizing OSX's Open Directory architecture, assume again-it just won't.So, the scanner's great. Get it and use it and enjoy it. It really is pretty cool how it picks up everything so well. Just... if you're an OD client (maybe Active Directory, too), maybe reconsider.
