The weather in the AZ is extreme and snail may not make it.

Q: What's an average life span? while i had them they were super algae cleaners, grew nicely, but didn't last a year.

I bought some in March and most are still alive. I’ve had them before and they lasted about a year.

Q: Is 5 ok for a 5 gal. tank and do I have to worry about them leaving the tank ?

Mine have not. My tank has openings around the filter and heater cord opening.

Q: Does one snail produce more

Not easily. Nerites require very specific breeding conditions which includes brackish water. If they are going into a freshwater tank, no.
