Game changer for amino acid formula
I wanted to leave a review for anyone using neocate formula or similarly thin formula AND for people concerned about the gelmix needing minutes to work before feeding - my son could not keep any of it down and has horrible reflux. He’s on medication and I’m not sure if the gelmix is helping his pain at all, but he has barely spit up since starting this, when he used to spit up at least an ounce of each bottle. It also only needs one minute to thicken once added if you don’t need it to be a perfect thick consistency- I just needed it to be like a regular formula thickness so I add half the serving size of gelmix, shake, add the formula and by the time I’ve sat down to start feeding my baby about 1-2 min later, it’s already thick! I was so nervous about needing to make bottles ahead and deal with waiting for the bottle warmer (my baby is NOT patient), but this seriously works so fast if you’re just trying to add very slight thickness

A great product
My daughter was born premature at 30 weeks and this product has helped us immensely. When she turned 42 weeks gestation we began using gel mix and she was able to start drinking my breast milk without choking again! After several weeks of using gel mix she no longer needs thickener, but it helped us get through the tough weeks. I could not recommend gel mix more!

Good but takes time to activate and work
Good product not it takes too long to get thick so it’s not great if you need the bottle asap

Only option for milk thickner
This is the only product option I have and it was prescribed for my baby. It’s a great way to thicken milk and help reflux. It’s easy to use and can get it delivered efficiently. The main problem is the price for size. It’s almost 3x as expensive as formula and the container does not even come full!

Causes constipation
Hospital recommended this for my son's dysphagia!!!! This thing is horrible caused him severe constipation and pain to the point where he cries and screams when the poop is coming. Nothing but rocks DO NOT BUY IT. Instead I will make my own thicket boiling barley oat seeds in slow cooker. Sucks bc I have a whole package left. Will try to return asap.

Amazing as it described
Very effective. My 5 month tends to choke so this products prevents him from doing that during feeding. Great product!

Ive used this for 4 months with breast milk
My daughter was diagnosed with dysphagia (aspirating thin liquids) and I have been using gelmix in her bottles for the last 4 months. This product was initially very difficult to use and frustrated me a lot. After reading Amazon reviews, the gelmix website, and watching videos on how to prepare bottles, I figured out how to best thicken breast milk.Firstly, the instructions on the back are misleading. They say if you wait 5-10 minutes after adding the gelmix, your body-temperature milk will be thick. This is way shorter than it actually takes! I usually have to put the gelmix in, shake the milk for about 15 seconds, and wait 45 minutes. I also usually shake for another 15 seconds a few times while I wait the 45 minutes. I have to give it a good shake before doing the drip test as well. My speech therapist told me not to shake breast milk but there is no scientific evidence that shaking breast milk damages the antibodies (anymore than freezing/heating).My baby is supposed to be given mildly thick (nectar thick) milk, so the instructions on the back say I should add 2 scoops per 3 to 4 ounces. I found I usually have to add 2 scoops per 3 ounces for it to be adequately thick. This is the high side of thickener even though my baby is supposed to have 4mls left on the drip test (the low side of mildly thick).Gelmix did cause my baby gastrointestinal discomfort (gas/constipation) at first so I do wish I had started with a little at a time (with a low flow nipple). The GI problems went away pretty fast though and she was fine within about 5-7 days. The company (parapharma tech) has been pretty good to work with. My husband left a bad review on Amazon (when we first started with gelmix and struggled to find how best to make it work), and they refunded our order. Since my baby uses so much gelmix to thicken every single bottle, we have gone through tons of this. You can chat into the parapharma tech website and they give discounts on case lots (12 pack) and sometimes have other discounts.Overall pros:-helps with dysphagia-decent company to work with-the only approved thickener for infants under 12 monthsOverall cons:-very difficult to get the same thickness every time-pretty expensive-need better instructions/hints either on the back of the canister or on their website
