For sure, contact your gastro-enterologist for advice in using this product. My Personal Experience This product is a great way to get nutrients & calories with minimal effort from the digestive system (which is particularly important for those with GI disease - like Ulcerative Colitis or Crones). However, unless you have an extreme disease state, be sure to still incorporate some food into your diet. The GI tract is closely linked to your immune system, and does require to be active at least at a minimal level. You'll want to avoid GI atrophy from limited use, as it'll become increasingly harder to onboard back to food in the future. Helpful Side notes: (1) Given the last sentence above, I still get 20% of my calories from food, although it's a carefully selected small list given my condition. (2) I mix this non-flavored mix with water, and am fine with the taste. However, I have heard that some can't live without the flavor packets (ordered separately). Personally, the flavor packets have ingredients that I believe would be detrimental to the aggravated GI, but others may experience different results. As an example, the flavor packets contain citric acid, which is also present in Vitamin Water (a drink that my GI can't seem to tolerate at this time). (3) My system can't personally handle the bubbles created when shaking up the mix with the water, so, I skim the bubbles on top with a spoon before consuming.

It looks like the company who sells this tried to hide this review... The expiration date on these packets is very suspect. I just got my order today and it expires in in about 45 days! I am not sure what the actual shelf life is, but if you pay almost 1000.00 for this and it is that close to expiring then you feel somewhat cheated. Because that means it was sitting in a warehouse somewhere for how many months? Update (1/1/2017): So i just finished my course which was about 18 days on just vivonex and sadly it didn't do anything for me. I felt better at times during those 18 days, but the moment I got onto real food everything came back immediately....
