I bought it to combine 3 solar panels in parallel into one line to the charge controller. The box is thick and well designed. Be careful as the lid screws can strip if you torque them too tight.

The people who gave bad reviews CLEARLY had no idea what they were doing and bought the wrong thing for what they were trying to use this for. They should have just bought much cheaper water tight boxes rated for line voltage and wire nuts. I ordered this for wiring tandem axle trailer electric brakes and its perfect for that using 12 gauge stranded wire (as its limit). I split my 10 total wires up amongst the 4 holes and then used some heat shrink around each set of wires where they pass through the grommets so they tighten down snd seal. The way I did it is very water resistant, but probably not 30M water proof, but thats only because I was using individual wires, not because of the design. I like it enough for this purpose that I’m going to order another one to clean up my trailer tail light wiring. They say this is some new type of ABS, that I don’t know, it doesn’t feel like ABS to me, it feels like it would be more brittle than ABS and I’m not sure I’d trust it to be very UV tolerant if I was installing it in a location exposed to sun and weather, but that’s only a feeling, certainly no scientific testing to confirm that. None the less, mines installed up under a trailer and if it ever did get exposed to UV light I’d be having more problems to worry about than this box.

With the terminal strip attached to the back, wiring is more difficult than it needs to be. I used longer mounting screws, two washers and ¼" plastic tubing to secure the terminal strip close to the front cover. Access to the wiring screws is easier and the extra lengths of wire can be placed out of the way behind the terminal strip instead of in front. I drilled two center holes out to 7/8" to accommodate ½" conduit. I used O-rings to seal the ½" PVC male adaptors. To seal the remaining two holes, I cut off two of the cable grips at the hex and filled the cable holes with RTV. One reviewer complained about snapping the plastic cover screws. The box is gasketed, so the screws should only be tightened until the cover just touches the housing.

I am using this for a low voltage application, and that's all I think it's good for. The reviews stating the strip screws do not align are accurate. I only used the top screw. Using a standard Phillips head screwdriver, you should have no problem with screws breaking. I feel as if people were using an impact driver or something. They also give you an extra screw. I dont see how a 14 AWG wire could safely fit in the strip provided, especially when only one screw can be used to tie the strip down. For me it works after I modified it with a new hole for one of the glands. I would stay clear of this for a serious application using 120/240V wiring.

While the product had all of the advertised components I wanted to connect my outdoor speaker system, when I actually attempted to install it, it was certainly NOT what was advertised, and was NOT something I would be confident with in waterproofing wire connections. The screw connections into the box would not tighten properly because they were apparently stripped, so they could never seat properly for a waterproof connection. The terminal strip in the box actually had a broken part on the bar rendering one of the terminals useless. The screws to close the box are plastic and the box did not close flat, and thus, as I tightened those screws trying to seal the box, broke. There is also no way to plug any unused holes in the box provided with the kit. Save your money, find another product. ABSOLUTE GARBAGE.
