What is the size of the battery box?

about the size of three AA batteries.

I need to put them on a tutu made of tulle...Will it catch the tulle on fire?

I turned on a string and left it for about 10 minutes. The bulbs were barely warm to the touch of the tip of my index finger. I would feel safe putting them in contact if fabric. I would still recommend that you do a test: put the lights on the fabric, hang the fabric on a hanger for 15 minutes watching them closely and feeling them for warmth... just to be on the safer side. ba careful not to damage the insulation on the wire. That would be a different matter.

I would like to use these lights to decorate my graduation cap. Do they get hot? Is it safe to use these?

They do not get hot and would be perfect for your cap other than the battery pack which you would have to put somewhere with some velcro or something.

Just what I needed

These are cute and handy to have around when you want to add some sparkle to a room or highlight a tabletop arrangement. As other reviewers have commented, the battery pack is rather large and you might have to get creative in hiding it. Aside from that, these lights are great. At first they seemed dim, but I realized my batteries were old; I put in new batteries and they're now pretty and bright.

Read the reviews for help on opening the battery box

As most reviews have said, the battery box is hard to open. It is supposed to slide; you can see small arrows on the top. I still needed to use a small knife to gently lift the clasp and then slide. The wire is very thin and easily tangled. Despite these few problems, I was very pleased with the result. The lights are very bight and add to my decoration.
