Excellent Pedals
These pedals feel great and are very fast. I bought them mostly because I liked the old school design with the added bonus of direct drive and extra bracing. These pedals played well right out of the box but they can be easily adjusted with a drum key. The drive shaft is really not up to par with the pedals. The U-joints were tight with a lot of friction at first and then the friction soon became slack after a week or so. I replaced it with a Trick replacement drive shaft with ball bearings. Now the left pedal has absolutely no slack. The beaters are nice but they are very light and the pedals did not include shaft weights. I added a shaft weight right under the beater head and they get a great sound. These pedals are also too good for the nylon case they come with. Should have been hard shell. Overall I am very happy with these pedals. I could have bought some Axis pedals given the cost of the extra drive shaft but I feel I wound up better off with these Yamaha pedals.

If you want an awesome double bass pedal, look no further than this Yamaha DFP-9500D!
I received this pedal yesterday and immediately upon attaching it to my bass drum I was absolutely hooked. It is smooth as silk. The adjustments were easy and the pedal has just been performing flawlessly. The pedal boards are just the perfect size for any foot technique you want to use. By the end of the day I had already gotten used to the soft, smooth, quick response of the direct drive system on this pedal and I was banging out some heel/toe doubles like I was never able to do on my former Iron Cobra pedal. And the smooth surface of this pedal allows for great slide technique, as well, which was so hard for me on the I.C. pedal. I couldn't be happier with this pedal and I will probably never be able to go back to a chain drive pedal after feeling this direct drive pedal. And the deal that I got on the Amazon Warehouse deals couldn't make me happier. Thank you, Amazon.

Great value/price
Being a lefty, I was happy to find this find a solid pair of beaters that were better than the DW 3002 but slightly more affordable than the DW 9000 series. What you get here is a the trademark Yamaha construction of solid craftmanship without flashy components. These pedals are light and very responsive (direct drive is awesome!) for metal oriented applications.I'd rate these closer to a 4.5. My only (minor) quarrel with these pedals is that the slave pedal requires a great deal of fine tuning to match the responsiveness of the master pedal (just like any other fine tuned machine). In doing so, I went through a couple center shafts and had to order replacements direct from Yamaha.

Smooth as silk.
Wanted to get back into playing double bass, but not sure which brand to with. After some research I decided to go with yahama, and then for my budget, the DFP-9500 was perfect. Very simple assembly, and the carry box is very nice. Out of the box, these pedals were smooth as silk. Very easy to adjust the strings and foot boards to meet any playing style. Extremely recommended for anyone wanting to get back into double bass, or for anyone looking for their first double pedal.

Stellar Double Pedal
Simply Awesome! After 20+ years of playing hard rock / metalcore on pearl double pedals / power shifters I decided to upgrade. Wanted this to begin with to try a direct drive, but phyced myself out about it, so I stayed with a chain drive and ordered the tama speed cobra. Gave it a month or so and couldn't get used to the longboards. So I sold that and bought this. I'm impressed! Smooth! Perfection! Accurate! The Direct drive seems to let your toe go under the arch more due to the c shaped direct link/coupling. Lovin' it! \m/

Excellent Product
These pedals are high quality and perform very well. It is direct drive which is superior to chain drive. The boards are flat and smooth which I like playing with bare feet, or better yet, a pair of Yamaha Jet Ski water shoes that grip those pedals wonderfully. I guess you could spend a lot more and get higher quality pedals, with more adjustable features, but this pedal should accommodate most players.

Yamaha dd
Well, I played on an iron cobra double for the last 10 years. It recently broke and i needed something new. Some of my favorite metal drummers use either axis or trick pedals so i figured i would end up with one of those. Unfortunately, those pedals cost mega bucks so googled around to see what other pedals are out there for a decent price. Many customer reviews for this pedal were very good and often compared favorably to axis pedals so i took a chance and bought these pedals. Initially, the pedals were very hard to get used to. After playing chain drive pedals for 10 +years I didn't expect direct drives to feel that much different. The feel is completely different and takes time to get used to. It feels as though you are playing on air. The first time i tried them I could not play them very well because I was not used to the feel. It's as though I had to use a new set of muscles to work these pedals. But, after playing them for a few days I am starting to get a feel for them and can say with confidence they are a superior pedal. They are made to fly so are good for metal. If you are used to chain pedals just keep in mind that these are completely different. As long as you put the time and effort into learning how to use these you will be glad you did.

Perfect feel
These are a huge upgrade from my Taye slave pedal. They feel light on your foot but deliver quick, accurate, and powerful hits from the beaters. Direct drive is much more crisp and precise than the chain style. U still have to practice obviously but the 9500D will give u the best bang for your buck
