Santana: Volume 36

As I stated in my prior reviews for this type of product (dvd performance of songs), they are an invaluable complement for the playalong series, or any other type of tab book. The performer is our infamous excellent guitar player, doug boduch...he performs the songs at normal tempo, with no explanations, or "lessons" of any type, while the tabs run, in big readable characters. The playing is flawless, as always with doug,and the sound is excellent, just like the original!!! If this is what you need, ( to see a performance in a very close up form , in 3 different camera angles), then order it, if you prefer a tutorial of a song, (like this finger goes here, on this fret, etc, a-la Lick libray...), then forget it...it does not provide...they were useful for me.....but maybe not for you...(specially if you are a beguinner)...get the tab books first, THEN graduate up to the dvds.

I'm Very Pleased with this Product. I've been trying for a long time to learn and master, Santana's SONG OF THE WIND, and with this I'm able to work it correctly. I just watched and started on it last night, and the Guitarist is NOTE-for-NOTE, spot on. This instrumental is Like the Soul of someone singing. My Spirit just soars when I here it and playing it will be even more so. Watching them, it looks simple, and on one level, it is, but it has so many Subtle Nuances of little 'changes' and 'turn-arounds' that it is, at the same time, quite challenging to put all of it together. It is a masterpiece of Both Carlos Santana and Neil Schon, who both took turns playing the parts, so well, you can't tell where one starts and the other picks up.

The video is well done. The instruction is fine. The production values are excellent with useful camera angles. Song choices are excellent and include a few of my favorites.The only reason that I don't give it 5 stars is because unlike other instructional videos I own, this one does not have a pamphlet that has the music or tab and the only way you can get it is to copy it from the screen when you play it. Sometimes you want to practice but you are not located near your DVD player or a computer.

The products is everything they advertise. It would be make the learning complete if they provided a printed tab or pdf file so we could print out the tabs. It is quite difficult and time consuming to properly write out the tabs using the correct notation.

While the quality of the lessons on the DVD are excellent and the on screen tab is very well written, the fact that there is no printed book with tab or printable PDF, you may be better off searching other products. Its a real pain to try to practice theses songs without the DVD, or if you have a photographic memory, then you will probably really like the lessons.

This is a nice dvd. I always wanted to learn Samba Pa Ti.

You cannot beat the play along series. Great tabs and sheet music and add the DVD it is a great teacher. Some of the Hal Leonard books come with a DVD with tutorial of the songs. Whichever product you choose, you cannot go wrong with Hal Leonard.

Fondamentale per chi vuole suonare Santana! Facile da capire, lo può usare chiunque abbia un'istruzione di base di musica. Enjoy!
