Great stylish headphones with awesome sound
These are a great replacement for my old monitor headphones. The build quality seems top notch and all of the parts twist and click quiet and easy. The clarity, volume, and vibrance of sound is drastically improved over my old pair and the sound is very tight but big. I definitely have to compare this to other sound sources because their volume throughput is surprisingly high compared to my monitor speakers or desktop speakers. Are they truly flat? It's difficult to say. They seem a little bit bassey so maybe not truly flat, but the response I've heard is very present across the spectrum. You can definitely hear the entire mix without any frequency sticking out too much.I've found these to be quite comfortable for long session usage with adjustments to fit perfectly. It comes with multiple cable types including a nice curly cable that is just right for use with my desktop DI unit. The colors are pretty true to what you see on the website. It's kind of a burgundy almost Iron Man red with gold trim. It looks pretty cool.

WORTH IT. GREAT VALUE. CLEARLY BETTER THAN 1st GEN. CLASSY COLORING.
I’ll start by prefacing with the fact that own a pair of the original M50 model headphones (but after 6-7 years they finally look like they need an upgrade).LOVED the coloring; it was very classy and stylish without looking gaudy or encouraging negative attention while I was in airports for example since it is more of a maroon with accents of gold colored “brushed aluminum” similar trrim.I owned the White ATH-M50’s prior to this and I think these do sound better, as well as have a slightly improved ear pads. The ATH-M50X has a detachable (but twist to lock) cable port for the 3 cable types that come with the headphones. this is VERY worth it as with the build in cable with the previous gen, just walking around meant dealing with a massive 6 foot and coild cable. No doubt the ATH-M50x is a MUST BUY eclectically for those who know about how the 1st gen M50 headphones were already studio favorites.

Sturdy and has great sound!
The red being a limited color came as a pleasant surprise as it's not listed. It's absolutely beautiful in person. Slightly glittery. Gold accents match the red quite well.As for the sound and build quality, I was hoping for a little more bass, but the sound is so crisp and clean. It's quite balanced.I wear glasses and I don't feel like my ears are being pressed too much, which was an issue with my lower quality pair of headphones. They're quite comfortable.I haven't even been using these for an hour and they've become a favorite. My brother likes them too!

Nice, Neutral Sound
I am 66 y/o and my hearing is missing some frequencies. For that reason I wanted a fairly "neutral" set of headphones. In other words, I didn't want too much bass coloring in my listening. These fit the bill and I am very happy with my purchase. They are very comfortable as well. My ears measure 2.3" in length and these seem to fit nicely. I wouldn't want anything smaller though. I did experience some discomfort with one ear after one hour, due to fit, but I am satisfied with the comfort level and sound quality of these headphones. I would buy them again. They are expensive, especially with the red color, but you could do a lot worse IHO.

Audio-Technica is fantastic, and these headphones are ABSOLUTELY worth the cost.
I have had the predecessor to these headphones, the ATH-M50s for the past 5 years. Five years of daily, 12-hours a day ABUSE, and they did not complain until two weeks ago when a small part broke. After realizing that revitalizing them overall would unfortunately not be cost-effective, I decided to purchase a pair of these, and it's looking like I'm going to have the same long lifespan with these that I had with the M50s. I had almost 22,000 hours into the old pair, and the part that gave wasn't the drivers themselves. They still work perfectly, they just won't rest correctly. When I bought the ATH-M50s, I actually bought a three-year all-coverage warranty...This isn't something you'll need. My M50s even got RUN OVER at one point and it didn't break them. They're monumentally tough, and I expect the same will be true of this new updated model!

they do sound awesome! Very light too-you can barely feel them on ...
I read the reviews and decided to try them out and yes, they do sound awesome! Very light too-you can barely feel them on your head they are so comfortable. The reason I didn't give it 5 stars is due to the pads not being quite as thick or comfy as I'd like but still, they aren't bad or uncomfortable. Also, these headphones aren't really bass heavy if you like bass heavy music at high volume. They are fine for moderate volume with a lot of bass but if you listen to 808 style drum kicks and booming basses-they aren't really that great for it at high volume levels but just fine at moderate volume levels. However, that's just my own opinion and I do tend to listen at higher volume levels so keep that in mind. They come with extra pads and several cable types and lengths plus a gold 1/8 to 1/4 in adapter. I do highly recommend these headphones..they are worth every penny! They look great too!

My first major headphone purchase.
I love the sound quality. These are my first major headphones and I always put these on when I want to just immerse myself in music. If you're a basshead you may not want these because that's not the sound they're going for. Also I feel like the trebles/highs kind of rattle/hurt my ears at a higher volume. I have no point of comparison though but I am. Happy with this purchase.Lastly, love the color that's so similar to Iron Man!!! (I got Red)

Happy with these--need for nothing more
These are just terrific headphones, described huge numbers of times here and elsewhere. Hot color. It's my third pair (for another venue--backpack), so I'm very familiar with them. I modified my others to be able to use 3.5 mm cables directly, but I'll leave these as is, I think. That's my one cavil about these, with AT's proprietary 2.5 mm connection. One can mod these easily enough--check YouTube. And if you must gotta have Bluetooth, an adapter is available specifically for these. Or, if modded, can use virtually any BT receiver with a 3.5 mm plug adapter. (I use Mpow Bluetooth 4,1).A winner all around.

Just Awesome!!
I own a fair number of headphones - Beats Studio2, Denon AH D6000, Sennheiser HD598, Hifiman 400i, Audio Technica MARX - but had always wanted to have the legendary 50x..got a surprise gift from my wife last week.Straight out of the box these are awesome to listen music on. Sharp, clear, peppy, energetic. Had a lot of reviews saying the bass tends to be heavy or that they sound awful out of the box etc.. No way man!! I put on ABGT podcast and it sounded amazing. The rightamount of bass with clear crisp mids. And this was straight from IPhone 6S, no amps here. Then I attached them to Fiio headphone amp E07K. The bass was bit muted. Source of music was again iPhone 6SFinally attached them to iFi Black lable Nano and used source as Astell &Kern AK 70 hi resolution player. That set up just put the sound from these headphones on another planet. Dire Straits, Floyd, Tseries mixtape Punjabi or B.B King, all sounded out of the worldThese are not reference or audiophile headphones but they do what they are meant for amazingly well - output clear, punchy, energetic sound!!Can't put them down!!

Great Quality Pair Of Phones
Extremely comfortable to wear, including over longer periods of time, and feel quite light. Rather slim too so they don't make you feel like a Lancaster Bomber pilot. They have a very good sound: a nice and clear top end, middle and good bass which is not so overpowering as I had read. The phones replace an expensive pair of Steel Series phones which were a gaming headset, and they do the job even better as my Steel Series lacked in bass. I already purchased some bluetooth headphones recently for 30 quid so I could use them with my PC for movies or in the garden etc, but the sound of those was just about adequate and these are what I was after for serious music listening sessions. You get 3 cables: 1.2m, 3m and a coiled 1.2 to 3m. The noise isolation is pretty good too, almost eradicates the sound of my PC fans as I sit at the desk and also my partner watching YouTube vids on her tablet across the room lol. As soon as the music kicks in it's all I can hear.I've been looking at lots of different phones, I have an Audio-Technica turn table too so I thought I'd go for these considering the good reviews. They look, feel and sound great. Shame about the price increase for the sexy red pair but I'm well chuffed as they say. :)
