Q: what is the lumes on this light

The light's description says it uses a 130W H4 halogen lamp. A halogen lamps emits between 16 and 24 lumens per watt, putting the range of feasible answers begins as a number between 2,080 and 3,120. assuming it not made with the overpriced short lived 24 lumen/watt halogen, and allowing for some lost light not captured by the reflector or dissipated in the front lens ... the light puts out something between 1800 and 2000 lumens.A previously supplied answer is correct insofar as the usefulness of candlepower goes, but erroneously states a conversion factor. The conversion from lumens to cp depends on the angular width of the projected light beam. Finally, because sales go to the light claiming the most candlepower, spotlights advertise the peak hot spot in the beam, not an average intensity of the beam. 12,000,000 cp will be several times the average beam intensity.

Q: Will the spotlight operate while plugged into my truck (12v) -- or is that just used to charge?

I don't remember if it works while charging from 12v but it does not work while charging from a wall plug.

Q: will it operate on the car charger alone? For example, if the battery is dead or missing can I still use this light by having it plugged into a car?

I HAVEN'T TRIED IT THIS WAY CAR CHARGER DOES CHARGE UNIT RELIABLY WELL

You might want to confirm that the charger puts out the right power and also confirm the battery voltage. It sounds funny but you may want to verify the outlet you are charging from, or if it is a car accessory socket, that the fuse is not blown. From there if everything is working, you may want to check the bulb. If it stopped after the first time, I would see if you could exchange it for a new one, but only after I check to be sure the charger at least has power. Can't blame the light if your outlet isn't working.
