Accurate pH readings for hardwater tanks—easy to use, no faff, and results are clear as day.
Been using this for my Rift Lake cichlid setup where high pH is the norm—this kit reads up to 8.8, so it’s ideal. Comes with the test solution, vial, and colour chart. Just fill the vial, add drops, shake, and match the colour. Takes less than a minute and results are easy to read.I’ve tested it against digital meters and it’s bang on. No clouding, no dodgy readings. Works well in both freshwater and marine tanks. I use it weekly and during water changes to make sure things stay stable. The kit lasts ages—160 tests is no joke. Bottle seals tight, and the chart’s printed clearly. No guesswork, no drama.👍 Pros✅ Reads high pH—ideal for Rift Lake and marine setups✅ Quick results—under a minute✅ Clear colour chart—easy to match✅ Reliable—matches digital meter readings✅ Long-lasting—160 tests per kit👎 Cons❌ Manual process—needs vial and drops❌ No digital readout—just colour matching❌ Can stain if spilled—wipe up quick❌ Doesn’t cover low pH ranges🧭 Personal ReviewIf you’re running a high pH tank and want reliable readings without the faff, this API kit earns its spot. I’ve used it across cichlid builds and marine setups—no drama, just clean results and peace of mind. Proper stash-ready gear for anyone who takes water chemistry seriously.

Fiddly to use, but appear accurate and easy to read
We use rain water for replacing the water in our aquariums, which naturally is very clear unlike our tap water at times. One problem however is that rain water lacks nutrients and carbonate hardness, so I need to add supplements. This GH and KH kit lets me keep an eye on these levels. The kit includes two bottles and two test tubes with caps. At a first glance it appears simple to use, i.e. with a 5ml sample in the test tube, add a drop of solution, cap and shake, then repeat until the colour changes. In reality, the cap is very stiff to place on the test tube. After repeating the steps a few times, some liquid ran down the outside of the test tube and as I tried capping it, it slipped from my fingers, flew across the table and smashed on the floor.Once I managed to test the KH and GP and using a paper towel to dry the test tubes before capping after each drop, the test reading itself is very simple - The colour changes from blue to yellow for the KH reading or from green to yellow for the GH reading. It includes a chart that shows the readings for the number of drops added. Personally I would prefer if it included a bung instead of a cap as it is quite tedious trying to pull off and replace the stiff cap after each drop, particularly when it can take 6 to 9 drops to complete each test. The guide mentions that the bottles must be held vertically upside down for accuracy, so I'm not sure about the accuracy with being unable to fully invert the bottle without it releasing multiple drops. With other test kits, I need to squeeze the bottle to release drops, where as the bottles with this kit starts releasing drops before it is fully inverted. There is also a warning to wear protective gloves, protective clothing, eye protection and face protection and to only use outdoors or in a well-ventilated area.

Great bit of kit, easy to use!
Vital part of responsible aquarium keeping. Easy to use and happy with the increased ability to check tank levels. Kit lasts a long time, value for money!

Straightforward
As others have mentioned, initially the dropper bottle will drip quickly when turned upside down, so a little care is needed, and it will do it less after a few drops have been used. Otherwise straightforward to use.

Good test kit for nitratea - colour chart can be hard to interpret though.
Good test kit for Nitrates. The colour chart is a little bit difficult to gauge but advice online seems to be to focus on the hues (orange/red) rather than the saturation.Turns out my tap water is 40ppm nitrate so this has made maintaining my aquarium a lot more...interesting!
