The Metabolic Effect Diet: Eat More, Work Out Less, and Actually Lose Weight While You Rest : Teta, Jade, Teta, Keoni: desertcart.co.uk: Books Review: Really sensible advice, educational and informative - Really informative, easy to read book. Don't get this if you want a step by step restrictive diet but if you want to understand how your metabolism works and how to adjust your lifestyle to get fit and lose fat forever this is the best book I've found. I tried another book that made sense but didn't work for me. I've only been following this one for a few days and already I'm feeling energised rather than sluggish as soon as I wake in the morning. Morning headaches have also disappeared. I'm not expecting a miracle weight loss but looking forward to sculpting my body and feeling healthier. Many years ago, having had 4 children close together, I lost the baby fat with Slimming World and weight training. I continued to be very active and work out roughly following Slimming World, eating lean meat, lots of veg and limited carbs. This worked for 20 years then post menopause with empty nest and a sedentary lifestyle I've piled on 5 stone. I thought I was too old to do anything about it but this book has motivated me to get off the couch, exercise and go back to sensible eating. Review: Excellent - I found this book interesting, practical and easy to refer to. The way that the eating plan is explained around 'the science' was easy to understand and follow. I used the book mainly for the diet as I have been working out as the Metabollic Effect Diet has advised for some time but couldn't get my eating right. As the writers suggest the mainstream diets are focused on losing weight but this plan helps you lose fat and not muscle. I lost 10 lbs in 3 weeks and reduced my fat percentage and it was so easy and the important thing is that I am not hungry or craving rubbish any more. Definitely worth a read

Good book but nothing new in here
I read a lot of books on diet and fitness for two reasons: 1. I like to stay fit and healthy and 2. I run a diet and fitness website so I like to keep up to date with trends and new developments. I found the information in this book to be a bit of each of the following: Making the Cut: The 30-day Diet and Fitness Plan for the Strongest, Sexiest You - This book by Jillian Michaels is based around finding your body type which is determined by your metabolism and then adjusting your diet and exercise around that to best benefit for you rather than a 'one size fits all' approach. Body by Science: A Research Based Program to Get the Results You Want in 12 Minutes a Week - An excellent and interesting book selling us the idea of working with our body rather than against it and again by listening to your body and adjusting your diet, you can apparently do exceptionally short workouts based on 'blasts' of energy in a power circuit fashion which will build muscle and burn fat quicker than the old 80s aerobic belief. It has long been realised that the body does not necessarily burn fat and act at its most effective while doing consistent aerobic workouts. This book is an excellent in depth analysis and explanation of how to utilise diet and exercise to best effect with minimal effort. The 4-Hour Body: An uncommon guide to rapid fat-loss, incredible sex and becoming superhuman: The Secrets and Science of Rapid Body Transformation - Now this book is a little extreme and quite difficult to get into but the concept is the same. By learning more about how our body works and working 'with' it, we don't need to be slogging our guts out at the gym for hours and hours a week. I don't think anyone reading this book would go to the extremes that Tim did but we can all learn and benefit from his results and observations. The Dukan Diet - Just the diet bit not the exercise but it covers the same principle of balancing proteins and carbs and reducing carbs overall to great effect. First of all, bodybuilders have realised for years that in order to build muscle and reduce fat, protein is the way to go. An excess of carbs for anyone is a big mistake but most of our daily foodstuffs available these days are carbohydrate heavy. Secondly anyone heard of Ayurveda?? An age old Indian system of body types and eating to best benefit your particular body type. So nothing new there. Perhaps the only way this book stands out a little is that is emphasises 'Hormones' and the role they play in our metabolism and in our bodies in general. It is fairly obvious but people do not always realise the obvious. What happens at 'middle age', the menopause, during pregnancy, puberty etc ? Hormonal changes which generally bring about body changes particularly with regard to shape and size. So I see this book as a new slant on an old theory. But does it work? I have not tried this particular programme yet but I do weight training and have followed the high protein diet for several years now and yes that works. Also, I know that working out every day is not actually beneficial to your body as it can overwork muscle and actually prevent them from building up (if they cannot heal properly they cannot build) and I know that if I miss a couple of workouts, I generally really go for it the next time and push myself and see no difference in effects if I only workout 2 times that week as opposed to 4 so in theory the minimal exercise approach should work so long as the exercise is full on effort when done. This book gives you plenty of suggested recipes for your body type to follow. The information is presented in a very readable way and easy to read and digest (I don't think it has a high carb content :-) ) and should be fairly easy to follow. In practice, doing 3 x 20 min workouts a week is easy. So most people will be willing and able to do that but the programme will not work on that alone, you HAVE to follow the diet recommendations for this to work and in practice that is the hardest thing for people to do. Changing your eating habits is possible but takes perseverance and strength of will. It is so easy to slip back into old ways and that can really mess things up. I know, when I am doing a fat-burning 4 days of protein only - it is really hard to stick to you and you yearn for croissants or crisps or potatoes even though you know it is only 4 days of your life without them. In conclusion, it is a good book. Well written, plenty of factual support to its concepts and if followed should work.

Interested and disappointed
My book has just arrived. I am yet to read it but am hopeful it will be a great read. I am disappointed though as my book is ripped. Which I don’t expect from a new book.

Finally a diet that works without fuss or huge cost!
I've been on this diet for 2 1\2 weeks and lost 9lbs,I can honestly say I've not been been hungry or bored which is why so many diets have failed in The past,I really feel great and confident that I'm going to reach my goal weight,I've got more energy and a feeling of well being that I haven't had for a long time. I'm a 50yr old mum of two teenagers who has struggled with my weight for years. We live on an average income and just couldn't afford The expensive diet plans out there. The book can be a little long winded at times but you need to get through it to understand how it works. It explains how your hormones are affected by what you eat and how they affect your metabolism and weight. There's a quiz which you must answer honestly to establish how your body burns calories and to decide what foods you should eat or avoid. It's very straight forward and not difficult to follow or understand. You eat 6 times a day and exercise each day, this includes healthy snacks, the exercises are not long or completely exhausting but essential to keep your metabolism going. This is not an expensive diet to follow (too many diets are full of expensive hard to get ingredients or products ) I shop in Lidl and they have all the foods I need, all I outsource is protein powder and fibre powder from amazon. I use unsweetened almond milk for the protein shakes which I is only 80p a litre in lidl. This diet will literally change how you look at food and how you have overconsumed sugar without realising it. You have one day a week when you eat and drink what you want and it's a revelation to have a cheat day,for me it's a Saturday and I look forward to it all week,it really keeps you going . The cheat day does not affect weight loss and is great for your well being. Give this book a try,the authors run the 'metabolic renewal' programme that you see advert used in Facebook etc, which I think can be quite costly, but this book is all you need . I don't write a lot of reviews but I felt that people would want to hear from an average person who has struggled and finally found the solution without being paid or sponsored etc,for a good review, this is my honest opinion, make of it what you will. Thanks for reading my review.

Brilliant advice
In a growing world of diet advice and fancy high cost programmes this is the best advice I've received and it works! Did the test to discover foods I should eat and discovered some fruit and veg I eat may actually stop me eating so I have modified these to alternatives and I feel its working and while we all know cards zap ure energy and may slow ure metabolism nothing is forbidden yhr book helps u understand that if do want to continue enjoying these it will advise depending on the outcome of the questionnaire how many bites 7 can enjoy at each meal and just balance your plate accordingly. Absolutely worth the money. While I may not follow it to the letter I keep important parts of the book in mind when eating and having also increased cardio and strength training I've list over 1 stone and feel I have so much more energy!

interesting
Interesting book, although each time I take the test I get a different result lol. I've found the exercise guidance helpful and combined their theory with Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred. Dropped 21lbs in weight and my fitness is the best it's been in years.
