Serious Moss Clearing Tool
Had been trying to use a rake on our moss infested garden and did not realise just how much there was until I bought this. Quite weighty and tough on your arms after a while but the results are amazing. Had to tighten the bolts holding the blades in place occasionally but that was it for upkeep. It is easier to use on areas that have been treated first (Iron Sulphate etc) to weaken the moss but not essential as its a pretty aggressive tool. You do need to get quite low for the most effective sweep, and make sure its dry all you'll be dragging up turf.

Needs sturdy handle
Good product, made s real difference to the lawn, but struggling to find a handle strong enough for it

Good for a few hours….only
It worked well but after a few hours of work in the garden it broke. The metal is very thin and not sturdy - waste of money

Great tool, with the right technique
After trying to rake my lawns with a regular wire rake, I bought this scarifier head. There is no comparison between then two. Even after being raked with a wire rake, this scarifier managed to remove huge amounts of dead material from the lawn very quickly.Technique: Rather than treating the scarifier as a rake (pull towards you, lift the head and move it through the air back to the starting point), I found a long back and forth motion, without lifting the head, was most effective. This method was also better for my back and shoulders. To get the most dead material out of the lawn, I went over a second time a few days later, perpendicular to the previous direction.I would recommend you keep an eye on the four nuts (two either end) that hold the tool together, and tighten them every so often with a 10mm spanner.

Cheap but weak
Managed to scarify full lawn but the weld joint on this has cracked now. Only a small lawn so not had much use. Will likely need to buy a better quality one later this year so spending more in the long run really

Works well but breaks after 2 hours :(
This thatch rake does indeed work very well however, your working angle when raking needs to be very low which is a real workout! Not recommended if you have a dodgy back. The angle of the blades are fixed and they should have mad them adjustable. It does a very good job at removing moss and thatch, I was amazed at just how much rubbish there was in my lawn. It looks a bit bald now but after pulling the weeds out with a weed grubber (also bought on Amazon) and reseeding with grass seed, within a month it should be a full and thick lawn. The actual blades of the rake are pretty strong and this part is made well enough. However, the downfall is the thin metal at the neck. After raking back and forth (normal use) the thin aluminium becomes fatigued and I noticed the rake angle bending to the left then I looked at it closely and noticed it was breaking. I can't believe this was made from a German company where German Engineering is famous for being the best. The name suggests a Chinese company but on the neck there is a made in Germany sticker. This is absolutely shambolic when you buy a product and it lasts for 2 hours. DON'T BUY, AVOID

Good for lawns too
I bought this as a rake / cultivator for my veg patch - it does the job, can be used as a rake or with a deeper action it will work into the depths of the soil. It wont do the job of a fork but as long as the soil is not compacted then it works well. I was intrigued by a previous reviewer saying that it worked well as a scarifier for the lawn. I can certainly say that it works brilliantly at lifting up thatch to the surface on our old lawn. The blades (long end) stay under the thatch lifting the grass very effectively and also removes dead dead grass prior to mowing. You will need to make sure it has a sturdy handle for this job. This is a good multipurpose tool for lawns and soil.

Good but could be better
The angle is not adjustable so I found I had to be very low down to get a good angle to scrape the ground enough. Therefore it's a bit of a back breaker! Also the prongs move slightly so I found I had to adjust them back to get the best possible angle. That said, it did a good job (much better than raking) and was cheaper than others.Fits the Toolstation broom handle (code 30010) pretty well after a bit of sanding down the end!
