Westland Water Saving / Retention Gel, 250 g

I bought the Westland Water Saving/Retention Gel for my potted plants, especially for the warmer months and for days when I can’t water regularly. After mixing it into the compost as instructed, I noticed the soil stays moist for longer and my plants look less stressed between waterings. What I like ✅ • Helps retain moisture in pots and planters, so the soil doesn’t dry out as fast 💧 • Useful for balcony/indoor plants and during hot spells ☀️🌿 • Easy to mix into compost and doesn’t make a mess • Great support if you travel or sometimes forget a watering day 👍 What could be better ⚠️ • You need to measure it properly — too much isn’t necessary (and can make the soil feel a bit odd) • It helps with retention, but it’s not a substitute for proper watering and good drainage Bottom line: A simple, effective product for potted plants if you want to reduce how often you water and keep plants happier in heat or dry indoor conditions 🌿✨ Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Second time of purchasing and I think it does a great job of maintaining moisture in plant pots during hot weather

I have bought this item many times in the past (not from Amazon though!) as I always use this when making up my (4) hanging baskets for the year. I usually put the old basket filling, still with some water retaining gel, into pots where the gel can still do its job or even out in the garden where it can biodegrade safely between the plants. Consequently, I can say that this product is : - easy to use (I add it to the dry soil etc mix before adding it to the baskets to ensure that it is distributed as evenly as possible through the material) - fairly long lasting (as stated already there is often still gel left in the material at the end of a year in the basket, so I try to reuse it in pots where I can) - certainly retains enough water to keep the hanging baskets from totally drying out during the day even in a windy location (2 of the hanging baskets are in windy situations which dries them out, so I should know!). Hint : When wet, this looks like and feels very like clear jelly and swells up considerably, so leave a little more space than usual at the top of the basket to account for the 'growth' of the gel when wet. This can also be a way to recognise when water is required in the basket!

Seems to work ok, I mixed a few scoops in with my compost before making my hanging baskets, it’s very fine granuals unlike most on the market which swell to a real gel, I’m not sure how it will retain moisture but as I have used them in winter hanging baskets I’m not too bothered. Will more than likely go back to the bigger Crystal ones when I do the spring Summer baskets as you get a real sense that they retain lots of moisture.
