Excellent kit for 6 to 60 year olds. Superb support from littleBits and lots of fun. It’s educational too.
This kit is an absolute winner. I have been interested in programmable robots since I was a young teacher in the 1980s and 90s. I have seen great inventions come and go over the years including Romo which unfortunately fell by the wayside when the developers decided to drop the support. The Support at littleBits on the other hand is superb. I contacted them about a problem with the Swift Playgrounds programming project that links with the Star Wars Droid Inventor Kit, (it refused to form the Bluetooth link with the version I was using) and they got back to me within 24 hours with a comprehensive and very friendly reply. I think on that basis alone, I would recommend littleBits as a reputable company who will support its followers with comprehensive advice. The Kit itself is cheaper than the other littleBits kits but provides hours of fun for adults and kids alike. I cannot wait to introduce it to my grandchildren (9 and 6) because I think it will appeal to their love of making things (mainly Lego), and their understanding of robotics. I am particularly keen to see what my granddaughter thinks because the kit should appeal to girls as well as boys.I will be interested to see how long the 9V battery lasts for - it doesn’t look as if it should last long on the face of it because of the inevitable drainage caused by the motor and servo components. However, so far, my fears have been unfounded as I have used the kit for a week without any apparent loss of power. The sense and control modules are well built and snap together easily. Instructions are clear and easy to follow (using the free app which downloads easily onto my iPhone and iPad Pro - littleBits say that the minimum operating system is iOS 10 so check before you buy). As with other good kits (such as Lego), there is scope for making mistakes that are easily fixed, but require the person building the kit to follow the instructions very carefully. The only negative so far is not from me, but from my wife who says that the Droid noises are far too loud. Perhaps littleBits could fit a volume control on future developments.Well done littleBits - splendid product and excellent support. I shall be looking out for future products with interest.

Amazing for a kid that wants to get to know robotics
This thing is amazing. My nephew loves it and it’s not difficult to figure out. The App on his iPad gives brilliant directions and it’s a lot of fun. As you become adept at putting the hits together inside there are more advanced stages you can do too!

DO NOT BUY THIS - IT IS OBSOLETE
DO NOT BUY THIS.Got this for my son for Christmas 2021. We sat down to put it together on Boxing Day only to find that the "Littlebits Droid Inventors Kit" app that is required to construct and operate the droid is no longer available on Google Play or the Apple App Store.Apparently the Google app was built on old software frameworks that Google Play stopped supporting, so Play pulled the app from the store and it was up to Sphero (who took over Littlebits) to rebuild the app from the ground up, but they didn't have the appetite for that.Apparently it is possible to get hold of the app via unofficial means but Sphero are not supporting this product any more so you'd be pretty much on your own in going down that route.Disappointed, to say the least. It's a shame because the videos and (old) reviews I saw for this suggested this was a neat little gadget that I think my son would have really enjoyed, but I'll find something else for him.

controlling/steering of the droid) is really well thought out and the assembly instructions are nicely animated, and very easy to follow (so much ...
I first came across littleBits through my daughter’s school who use their products for STEM and coding lessons. She frequently tells me how much she enjoys these classes and using littleBits to create and make things, so thought it would be fitting to purchase this Droid Inventor’s Kit for home use (being a Star-Wars fan myself, I secretly bought it as a boomerang present, and give it a go myself!!).The kit comes with magnetic modules which are colour-coded (depending on its function). It also comes supplied with the plastic outer shells (R2D2 body) as well as different stickers for decorating the droid once assembled. The mobile app (which includes the assembly instructions and allows interaction, controlling/steering of the droid) is really well thought out and the assembly instructions are nicely animated, and very easy to follow (so much so, my daughter, aged 8 put the majority of it together!!). Each step is marked as a completion of a mission, which I thought was a great way to keep my daughter engaged. There are loads of mission/modes and fun ways to interact with the droid like voice-recording, draw mode, force mode and more, which has provided my daughter and I, hours of fun and time to bond over an activity which is not only socially engaging but also encourages interactive learning.I would highly recommend this product to children and adults alike, and now understand how littleBits products can benefit a childs’ social and creative development within a classroom environment

R2D2 unit
I've not been able to give a full 5 star review as this was a Christmas gift for my son that my ex allows me to see when she chooses. When I last saw my son he told me that 1 of the motors wasn't working, but I'm guessing it's too late to sort this out now, especially as I don't know when I'm seeing my son again?

Fabulous value for money- so much more than a toy
Spotted several of the tech websites raving about this kit, so bought this as a gift for my niece, who both loves Star Wars - especially Rey! - and toys that you can customise. It's perfect for her. She had R2-D2 built in no time - no help from me (and I really WANTED to play!!), loving the fact that she was constructing her own droid, from 'brain' to body to colours (the kit has a ton of stickers in it). She's now onto sending her droid on adventures via the app - the look on her face when she powered R2 with 'The Force' was priceless. I see that you can customise the droids still further - this will give me some great 'Auntie time' projects with her in the coming months, ahead of us both seeing the new Star Wars movie at Christmas. So lovely to see a well-made, well-thought-out toy that isn't just 'play once then forget'.

Requires an iPad App
Children enjoy playing with the Droid, they use iPad App to manage it.

No software download available, complete scam!
Absolutely worthless, no software download available in Europe. Apparently a well known problem but the product is still for sale. BIG disappointment for the kids and parents. Absolute scam
