Q: How well does this work on bass?

Probably brilliant. But it's all down to personal tone and preference. Give it a go? Personally I think the TC Electronic Helix Phaser will work better, and as brilliant as this pedal is, it's been beaten in my opinion by the TC . Hope this helps

Q: What guitar lead do I need to connect this please?

A regular guitar lead from the guitar to the in socket, then another from the out to the amplifier.

Q: How do vocalists find this looper? Or are there more suitable ones (that aren't too pricey)?

This isn't a looper... It's a phaser effect pedal :D

Q: Does the pedal come with mxr box, instructions and the rubber control cover?

Mine came in a MXR box. There is a quick guide booklet that comes with it, but I went online and searched settings for the sound I was looking for. It also came with a protective rubber cover for the switch. It’s an amazing pedal and worth every penny. Essential if you’re looking for the 70s era Van Halen sound (set the dial between 9 and 10 o’clock). Hope this answers your questions
