Helping Abused and Traumatized Children: Integrating Directive and Nondirective Approaches

This is a great resource for therapists who want to know more about children and sexual, physical, emotional abuse, and neglect. She covers a wide range of information from neurobiology to incorporations of theories with examples at the end of the book. An easy read and well written.

Eliana Gil, author of this book, is one of the most experienced and gifted authors and therapists when it comes to understanding and treating trauma. She has the gift of insight and deep connection with what trauma survivors experience. Some books and authors identify the problems, but Eliana Gil helps define and implement solutions for childrens suffering from abuse and trauma.Any book by Dr. Gil will be like a seminar in therapy that works!! She is an excellent therapist and author. So glad there are therapists in the field like her. If you haven't read her other book OUTGROWING THE PAIN, a short book on understanding and identifying feelings, you would be so blessed to read it. I share it with clients who are not able to understand their own pain and steps toward healing. Any book by Dr. Gil is a wonderful addition to any therapy and personal library!!

As someone who has suffered both child abuse and rape as a teenager (from a non family member) this book spoke to me. I've always loved psychology and this book is a definite favorite of mine. I often want to use some of the therapies in the book in my own life

I used this book for a graduate level course. It has a lot of great information, but can be difficult to utilize alone.

It would be nice to have a bit more of theoretical/scientific perspective on the interventions described and the initial chapters are a bit slow, but overall this is an excellent book on play techniques for use with this vulnerable population.

I purchased this book for class and it is great, lots of good information.
