Works Great – Durable and Sensitive Soil Tester
I’ve been using this four-in-one soil tester for over six months, and it’s been working great. I like that you can tilt it up and down, and all the functions (nutrient, pH, light, and moisture) are sensitive and fast, giving results almost instantly. It’s also durable, and the display is larger and easy to read compared to other soil testers. I mostly use the moisture setting for my potted roses, and it’s very convenient. Overall, a reliable, easy-to-use, and accurate tool for checking soil conditions.

Excellent for the price.
The old timers will tell you that these things don’t work. Well for new gardeners, knowing exactly when you should water has helped me a ton. I went from overwatering to watering much less and having excellent plant growth even in the heat of the summer. Just having a number I can put to moisture is a huge help for new gardeners. I also found my PH was a little alkaline, which I found out was not the end of the world. All of the functions work good, but I would say for a new gardener the moisture gauge is the best. Full water is like a 7 and watering needs to take place when it gets to 3. I’m in zone 7a. High mountain desert. In the heat the of the summer I’m watering every 3-4 days instead of overwatering every other day. I also like that the head moves so you can see it easily.

Updated 2024 - pH readings wrong / Good Customer Service
UPDATE: The pH metering stopping giving me readings. I used in the Fall and it stopped working in Spring. I sanded it per instructions but didn't help. Customer service quickly got back to me and sent a replacement with some extra hints. I think I might have messed it up because you are only supposed to lightly sand the lowest piece of the probe - the tip - but I had lightly sanded the length of the probe. The extra instructions they sent said this - so save your sandpaper and don't overdo it like me and you should be able to enjoy using it for multiple seasons. ---- The meter does produce different results for different soils around the yard. I mainly wanted the pH part, the other stuff isn't super necessary for my needs but interesting nonetheless. The pH seems like it could be pretty correct as it does adjust slightly for soils I know are more acidic (due to the type of fertilizers I use.) My problem is that the range of pH anyone really needs for soil is liberally only between 4.5 - 8.5. If you have soil below or above these it really doesn't matter how much since it is so far off the chart of what is needed for anything other than highly specialized growing media. And if you were doing that you would have more sophisticated equipment. So the entire range of what I care about takes up very little space between 1 and 8 since everything I have is between 5.5 and 7.0 pH. It's impossible to see at this scale if you are at 5.8 or 6.2 or what. You just have a rough approximation that it is about 6 which isn't super helpful. Every 0.1 change in pH represents a 26% difference in acidity or alkalinity of the soil. This instrument should be fine tuned for a smaller range of the pH scale showing at least .5 unit steps. An annoyance is that the needle at rest, in no soil medium, is pretty much right over the 6.5/7 pH scale. So if you insert the probe into soil that is 6.5 the needle doesn't move causing you to think it doesn't work. Every time this happened to me I flipped the switch around and would see the needle react very quickly and so I know it was functioning but the resting needle should really have its own place as is the standard on almost every other instrument you can find. The probe itself seems well constructed. I pushed it deep into the ground and was able to pull it out pretty easily. I think if you put too much pressure on the meter head while pushing it in you might break it though. The box comes with a little square of sand paper you should not throw away. Eventually the probe will lose its measuring abilities from a little corrosion build up on the metal. A light sanding would refresh it.

Works Well for My Purposes
I have a small container garden on my deck that I thoroughly enjoy, but sometimes a plant or two will go belly-up for some reason unbeknownst to me 🤔😣. Over-watering...under-watering? Not enough sun...too much sun? So, I'm trying to deliver to my "plant-children" what they need to thrive! This is a very useful tool that has proven highly reactive in all categories it is designed to assist in monitoring....proper soil moisture seems the most critical in my experience...(along with monitoring for plants being root-bound, and pests 👀) ... Simple to use, I try to poke it in the same hole to prevent from injuring the root system. I always wipe the soil from the probe tip and place it back in the box it came it and handle carefully to avoid damaging it. It does come with a small postage stamp sized piece of fine-grit sand paper incase mineral scale develops. The pH scale on the probe need only go from 3 to 10 as this is the range typically seen in yards and potting soils; anything more alkaline is highly unlikely and generally wouldn't support plant life very long...I mean you're not testing liquids in a laboratory for Pete's sake...so it doesn't matter nor is it necessary to have the full pH scale available 🙄😒😆. I definitely can recommend this soil monitoring probe! Very useful! Thank you!

The acidity and alkaline function of this device doesn't work.
I purchased a meter because it has a swivel head and I thought it would really be nice to know the alkalinity and acidity. I am very disappointed that the alkalinity / acidity function does nothing. I tested it on potting soil that was rich nutrients and also in straight sand the meter reading didn't change both read the lowest alkalinity. I know sand is not alkaline it is acidic. I'm going to keep it only because I like the swivel head and the moisture reading seems to be accurate.

Mixed results - pH measurement difficult and VERY intermittent
Like: - Design - esp the tilting display - Most of the measurements - all other than pH, work well, easily & quickly Don't like: - In my experience pH measurement just doesn't work well, even when instructions are fully followed and many attempts are made. It does work a little better when the soil is very moist and different depth insertion is tested, but pH measurement results remain VERY intermittent, in my experience it's extremely rare when any pH reading is obtained (any movement of the needle when product is set to pH mode and probe is inserted in soil) Update: 1) The seller contacted me and offered a full refund. Excellent customer service. 2) Fwiw it appears that there is an updated version of this product from the same seller

So handy for testing how wet or dry your pot plant compost is. Don't kill them now through overwatering or underwatering.
