Lost - Season 5 [DVD]

The greatest television series ever!
The X-Files use to be my favourite television series, I have every season on dvd, and honestly believed that nothing would ever replace it as my no 1 show; and then Lost came along and completely blew me away. The first season was impressive and it has just gone from strength to strength. I doubted that it could get any better after the first season and wondered how the story could continue, but every season has been consistently good, and the way the story has been unfolding, has just been mind blowing.Presumably you have already watched previous seasons of Lost, if you are reading this review; in which case, what are you waiting for?! If it hasn't captured your imagination already, then words fail me.If however, you have never had the privilege to watch Lost, I would strongly suuggest that you watch the previous seasons before embarking on Season 5, as they put everything in to context. It might seem at the time that the producers are just making things up as they go along but everything fits together like a jigsaw puzzle. In essence, the series is about a group of people who survive a plane crash on an island but it's not an ordinary island, it's practically invisible to the world and has unusual qualities, such as polar bears (in a practically tropical climate!) and the ability to heal wounds quickly. As well as the story that unfolds on the island, the survivors have flashbacks to their lives before arriving on the island and it seems that they are all connected in some way, with many of them unknowingly crossing paths with other survivors. There are also a lot of 'main characters' in the show, it's difficult to choose a favourite as there are so many contenders. I can only describe the show as jaw dropping with some of the revelations. I can't articulate how brilliant this show is, it has to be watched! In terms of Season 5 itself, it's a great season which provides a lot of answers! I was a little bit confused at the time it was on television, with all the time travel that goes on, but it all becomes clear after a while. It's going to be emotional when the last season airs in 2010 as I feel like I've been on this epic journey with the characters and I don't want it to end. Having said that, every season has been superb and I would hate for the producers to let the quality slide so let's hope season six ends with a bang!

“Why there is a dead Pakistani on my couch?!” [Carmen Reyes: S5 Ep2]
This box set covers the fifth series of the 2004-2010 TV series in which some passengers of a plane crash find themselves stranded on a mysterious Island. The finale of season 4 showed that Jack and Kate both managed to make it off the island and in what seems a future scene, jack definitely wants to return. I guess the question is….Why?There is good recap ABC which explains the story so far -in a dry humorous way. Quite engrossing from the start this maintains a steady pace as the new twist shows real world scenes as well as the usual flashbacks and current events as they happen. The 17 episodes are held on 5 discs which are in individual slim-line cases within a stiff card outer carton. Disc 5 hold the final 2 episodes and a host of extras. All the disc open to a menu offering English and most northern European or Scandinavian languages, then goes to main menu offering play all, episodes, set-up and some extras. Rated as a 15 these discs do contain some graphic action violence and, there are more sexual themes than previous series.Despite veering away from what seemed the main themes, this does show it’s not always good to get what you wish for as we learn even more about the new ‘Oceanic 6' and the Dharma Initiative, this still remains a good piece of ***** entertainment.

That 70's show?
I watched Lost Season 5 when it was on sky 1 a few months ago. Now,I only watched a couple of episodes, but enough to get the overall jist of it.I have to say,as much as I love it,I found this the weakest one of all the series. The whole thing with some of them, well the main characters, being thrown back into the 1970's did not sit well with me at all.Lost has given some pretty far fetched storylines in the past, but it has got away with it because it worked somehow. But the 70's thing just felt so unbeleiveble, and a bit stupid. And,if you haven't seen Series 5 yet don't read this bit.......Also,Sawyer and Juliet,a couple,?WHAT!That didn't work for me either.Apart from those things though,it's still great.I love the way Locke sprung back to life on the island, and the fact that Ben is slightly afraid of him because he is now acting all knowing and mysterious. But again,1970's.....NO!

LOST at its best!
Easily Lost's best year - the story really unravels in this fast paced, action packed season bursting with mythology. We finally get answers to some key questions like "Why were the survivors never rescued," and "Who, exactly is Jacob?." We also get the long awaited back stories of Danielle Rousseau, the Dharma initiative and the freighter folk with the help of (more than a little) time-travel. This season's main themes include death, leadership and and of course, the $60, 0000 dollar question, "Is it possible to change to the future?" Highly reccomended to anyone who enjoys quality television, LOST really knows how to push boundaries! The special features are great too: Michael Emerson takes you on a tour of the writer's offices in LA while Nestor Carbonell (aka Richard Alpert) takes you with him as he films the finale in Hawaii. There's also a special 'Mysteries of the Universe' video, deleted scenes, bloopers and more.

Very exiting season!
I love the Lost series, and this season is no exception! It is exiting, thrilling and I think it still keep the high entertainment quality that the other seasons had. This season is spending most time on the Island, but different from the other seasons, we are this time in two time scales doing to the moving of the Island in season 4.One in the present, with some of our friends (Locke, Richard, Sun and many more), where Locke is becoming leader of the Island, and one where Jack, Kate and Hugo who left the Island, is coming back to the Island, just to realize that they are arriving at the Island 30 years back in time.If You are a Lost fan You will not be disappointed.
