I tried it, and it works for me, recommended!
Smaller than I expected at about 15cms/6 inches in length, it consist of a bell which fits over the pointier end of the egg, and a 'T' shaped handle which pulls up. Hold the bell on top of the egg securely but not too firmly, pull the handle up to its fullest extent and let go. There is a clack sound as the handle hits home and the lift the unit away. At this point either the complete top of the egg will come away, or just the cracker - leaving a neat line around the egg where one can insert a sharp knife and lift the top away. Very neat. What I think happens is that with the cracker firmly in contact with the shell, releasing the handle causes a shock wave to travel down the bell causing the bell to try to ring, which it does by expanding and contracting and as it does this it slips just a tiny fraction down the shell, and then it contracting again. Inside the bell there is a small edge (like the inside edge of an opened tin can - one of those with a ring pull. and as the bell contracts this cuts into the eggshell all the way round. leaving the shell nowhere to go but up or down, i.e. to crack, which it does leaving no mess. I'm not a physicist, or engineer, so if you are and can explain that more simply and correctly the please feel free to correct me. The cracker is soundly made if stainless steel of good quality and feels quite rugged and made to last, and I enjoyed the experiment of using it on eggs boiled for five minutes, what it is like on soft boiled eggs I can't say as I only like the yolk to be runny. In this case 'caveat emptor' I think its a good tool and worth what I paid for it.

Poaching Paradise
At last a reliable, nay infallible, device for poaching eggs. Instructions are scant and in some form of Middle Earth English, but the poachers work. Way too dear, but I’ve got more Money than Sense!!

It works but you need to be gentle
Having spotted this product it seemed to be the ideal thing to use to crack a boiled egg so ordered one. When I first used it I pulled the handle to its fullest extent and when I let it go it not only cracked the top of the egg but the rest of the shell as well as the spring is very strong. Might work on a fully hard boiled egg but defiantly not on a soft boiled egg as you need to be a lot more gentle on how high you pull the handle before letting go. Have been getting the hang of doing a number of lighter taps on the egg to crack the top rather than shatter the entire shell but it is still taking time to master the correct pressure required.

I'm kind of amazed at how well it works once you get used ...
It does what it's suppose to. I'm kind of amazed at how well it works once you get used to it. Just press it firmly against the egg, pull the top part, than let it go. Try lifting it, very slowly. If there is any resistance, just give it another go and that should do the trick. On my 3rd breakfast I managed to get a clean cut on all 4 eggs and I keep getting a clean cut ever since. So it's a great product and it works amazingly well, just need to learn to use it so don't get discouraged if it doesn't work well the first couple times

Egg topper
Well made, not obvious at first sight how to operate it as there were no instructions with it. Placing it over the egg and pulling the black handle up against its spring and releasing it allows the lower lip of the dome cut the eggshell. However if the egg is rather soft boiled the cut breaks more of the shell than necessary. Well made product, a bit expensive, and really no better than the normal scissor type with 'jaws'.

Can't make it work
Looks so simple, reviews say it's really good. Yet when I use it the egg either all gets broken or it doesn't cut through the shell. Sad to say this was a pointless waste of time and money 😑😫

A Cracking Product
Two sharp blows from this gadget produces a perfect circular crack all round the egg. It works equally well with large hen and with duck eggs and I would not now be without it. The only very minor problem I had was that if you use it when the egg is in a metal egg cup, the transferred energy can cause the bottom of the egg to crack as well! Easy answer - hold the egg in a napkin - well worth it!

No more struggles to get into your soft boiled egg and to avoid egg shell fragments in your egg
Super invention. To avoid mishaps, hold the device on the top of the egg by the metal stem, do not touch the dome. Activate the 'thwacker' once only, if the dome then clings to the egg, hold the egg and gently turn the dome to release. The top of the shell may not come off but there is a fine line crack that just needs a knife or spoon to gently remove it. Some egg shells may also crack/fracture below the 'circular crack', but is usually no real problem.

Firstly, I hold the egg in one hand. With the fingers on that hand, I hold the egg topper in place. With my other hand, I lift up the handle and let it go. For me, I have to do that 3 times, but your mileage might vary, depending on how strong or weak the shell is. It doesn't cut the top clean off, though. I have to use a sharp knife to run around the groove that it makes to finish the job. But it's much cleaner and easier. Also, the device itself feels sturdy. It doesn't feel like a cheap thing that will soon fall apart. I was sceptical, but I'm quite happy with it.

...but you have to lower your expectations. This device will reliably create a perfect seam around the top of the egg, allowing you to lift off the top carefully with a sharp knife. It worked easily the first time I used it, and somewhat more messily the second time. But it definitely works. This item is ridiculously overpriced for what it is,, but I love soft-boiled eggs! So I would repurchase.
