Wild flowers of Britain by Margaret Wilson - A beautiful book

I am giving this beautiful book the full five stars because it is beautifully illustrated, and I like the idea of identifying the flowers by the month/ months in which they bloom. However, I have to agree with other reviewers and criticise the actual illustrations, because they are crammed together on each page, and it is difficult to work out which stem and leaves match a particular flower. Also, the colours are difficult to judge especially on the yellow pages. Some of the actual flowers are not quite accurate in colour, but perhaps I am nit- picking. The white background makes the details stand out much more clearly. I have yet to discover the " definitive " wild flower guide, as even photographs in situ are not helpful in identifying the plant, because often the leaves are obscured by the plants growing around it. However, I did like the idea of the illustration and just the name of the flower, as that is all many people need. I am sure that ther are many wild flowers omitted, but I still appreciate the talent and dedication of the artist.

Great illustrations nice little stocking filler

This is a beautiful little book. It details all the wild flowers by month and took me back to living in the countryside when I was young. My only reservation is that I bought this to help me improve my drawings of wildflowers but the pages are lovely little colour plates of groups of flowers/plants so not as easy to use for my purposes as I had hoped. I guess that's a very personal take on this little volume but I guess it may help someone if they were hoping for individual stems to help them with their watercolours. I'm keeping it nevertheless as it's gorgeous and a very handy companion on countryside walks
