CURT 11184 Class 1 Trailer Hitch, 1-1/4-Inch Receiver, Fits Select BMW 1 Series M, 128i, 135i

This is great but I should have consulted a professional.

Hitch was shipped quickly. It fit on my BMW 128i perfectly. I towed my small boat with no problems.

First off, the included directions were wrong. They said I only needed to remove the lower fascia but as it turns out there's more than one bumper style available for the BMW 1series and I needed to take the entire bumper cover off to mount this. That's a lot more work than the directions lead you to believe.Secondly, the fit-up was not great. The muffler bracket rattles against the hitch, there's no way to adjust anything to give it more clearance. I ended up sticking some foam in there but we'll see how long that lasts.Lastly, the receiver needs to be about 1/4"lower. It interferes with the bumper cover which had to be bent/flexed to get it back on.

hitch installed ok according to direction BUT when the car is warm the muffler rubs the hitch making an awful grinding noise, unbelievable that this obvious design flaw is allowed to continue,very poor product, I would not buy it again and would NOT recommend it to others with a BMW 135i

I wish it was more retracted to the inside. There is some space to the fuel tank.Now it sticks out a bit. It also flex a bit under the bike rack because of that. And the rack doesn't need to stick out that much either.Good thing is that it can be (not as easy) installed without removing the whole bumper
